It's a huge stretch to imagine that these provisions are "socialism."
^^^^ Yes MaseMan trying to say a military and highway system is welfare is a huge stretch and it still doesn't fit. It is not sending a check to the poor.
What a wonderful world, it is now acceptable to demand a welfare check. No shame living off the labor of other people. Where is the shame?

That is a very ignorant comment.
Socialism is redistribution of resources. A highway system is a public resource from which all parties benefit. Public transportation is the same. They are just as "socialist" as welfare or unemployment benefits. Any time you drive on a road, you are living off the labor of other people.

Only you could believe building a freeway and sending one person a check is the same thing

Then why are they against charter schools and school vouchers ?
I don't personally think finances should ever impede a child's ability to achieve excellence and in this country they absolutely do. Everyone should have the same educational opportunity. The haves and have nots should be determined by how one makes the most of that opportunity, not what elusive grammar school they were financially able to attend.

I can't believe I have to actually explain this.
And even if you don't drive, how do you think everything you own, eat and wear gets to your house?
I think you are missing the point.
We live in a socialized society in many aspects. Some people in this country have obsessive rage against welfare because they are either greedy or envious.

The problem I have with welfare is those that abuse it.
