I DO believe that most started out that way. But I also believe that the money, privilege, power, increasing distance (physical and time) away from the constituents they are supposed to represent, inevitably forces politicians to lose their way.
Yup- which is why we need term limits and a method to eliminate as much big money from elections as possible. Also get rid of gerrymandering.
Teddy Kennedy and Orin Hatch are, were two politicians that I disagreed with on most of their positions. They were good friends who played tennis together on a regular basis.
It demonstrated to all of us that one can disagree on a topic and still be civil and genuinely care for each other.
As much as I disliked G W Bush as president, and as much as he seemed to me to be a spoiled frat boy, I have always been happy to say that he is not a bit racist.
To me, the most significant change in American public life in my lifetime - the continuing move away from racism.
I can't think of any politicians I actively dislike. Almost every one of them has taken a position that I disagree with, and there are a handful whose every position I disagree with. But at the same time, they were elected by people in large part because of their personalities. And I do think that it takes guts to put yourself on the line, to run for political office, and then to have to make choices that are supposed to represent the people in your district. Because they know so very well that any choice, any vote they make is going to make some of their constituents angry, and they know so very well that some of their constituents are unstable to say the least. While lobby groups and other organizations do their best to corrupt the legislative process, there seem to be many, on both sides of the aisle, that are committed to doing their best for the people they represent.
I wish that comrade obama enjoys a long vacation at his own expense once he is no longer contaminating the White House and destroying our country. Let him long enjoy all the golf he wishes to play, and I hope he is able to attend the final four after his final four...
All of the politicians that I do not like are hard working and driven. I can say that. Regardless of how you feel about any of their accomplishments, they busted their asses to get there.
loved, loved, loved how george dodged the shoe and gave a big smile after. he too is a great dad and hubby.
I also think due to his own past demons, he is much more down to earth than his father, and less prone to party above country than his dad as well. In short, I would have voted for 43 over 41, and still would, every day of the week. 41 IMO did a predictably lousy job.
