South Ossetia was not recognized internationally as sovereign any more than than Crimea was.

Don't get me wrong, that was none of our business either. But Georgia and South Ossetia stood in the same relation to Russia as did Ukraine and Crimea.

That is true, but the roles were reversed. It was Georgia that went into South Ossetia which put Russia in the position where Ukraine now sits.

Anyway, like you, I'm not big fan of getting too embroiled in this.
