Why is it that when a white person dresses in "black face" the controversy that follows makes national news, but nobody seems to care when a black person does it?

Yes that is correct. And if you don't know why it's because you're ignorant of history...
I don't care when either do it. I understand the rotten history of "black face," but when a white person in the present gets in trouble for imitating a current black celebrity it should be no big deal. It's not at all the same thing. No one gets mad when someone dons a Bill Clinton mask or some other white celebrity, so why is this any different? If it was done in a malicious way, I'd understand. But dressing up as a celebrity on a hit TV show who happens to be black just doesn't strike me as racist.
Ah, more double standards huh? If it's ok for a black man to do it, it should then be ok for a white man to do it.
It's not a double standard, it's just the way things are... If you don't like being called out for blackface, your ancestors should have never done the minstrel acts in the first place.. Some opinions change over time while others do not...

This thread is about whiteface, not blackface.
