So what difference would her back-story make to you?
You kinda skipped that question..LOL
She's 35, well fed, homeless with 2 babies.
How did this happen?
Where is the father?
When was she last employed?
Does she have any skills?
How long has she been homeless?
Has she ever received welfare benefits?
Does she have other children?
Does she have prior convictions?
She might be skilled. She might have lost her job and things snowballed in the face of state budget cuts.
Are you saying that a Black woman didn't have a baby until she was 33? How does that fit into your imaginary back-story?
I use Photoshop a lot at work. The tears do not look fake.
What about them makes you think they are fake?
Real tears were " emphasized".
There are hundreds of links all reporting the same story, same words and same picture.
There are multiple links to multiple fundraising sites, on her behalf.
For all anyone knows, this woman/situation may be a victim of scammers.
Some of the fund raising sites claim that all funds are being turned over to the woman's mother. Given we are now talking tens of thousands, establishing a trust account at a bank would be more appropriate.
I'm not an advocate of leaving kids in cars, but it's really eye opening to walk around big European cities like Copenhagen, Seville and Vienna and see mothers leave their baby strollers on the sidewalk as they go into shops. American cultures approach to parenting and poverty is incredibly punitive and judging in comparison.
True, and actually Denmark is a model for care of children, but we know nothing like this will ever happen in the US.
Where is the father? Died in car accident
When was she last employed? Two years ago
Does she have any skills? Everyone has at least one skill
How long has she been homeless? One year
Has she ever received welfare benefits? No
Does she have other children? No
Does she have prior convictions? No
She might be skilled. She might have lost her job and things snowballed in the face of state budget cuts.
Man, you sure are nosy!
If you know the answers to these questions, what difference would it make to you?
There, I made up some answers for you. Does she get out of jail and keep the kids or is she punished for trying to find a job?
It just occurred to me that she, also, is a middle-aged mom.
In the context of the story it appears that those who called the authorities probably did the right thing. Every year we have examples of young kids dying in locked cars. They had no idea how long she had been gone or when she would be back.
That said the reaction out of authorities today seem to resolve around one solution and one solution only. Throw them in jail. Nothing is gained by putting her in jail. Maybe she made a poor decision but she never intended anyone any harm.
Take her and the kids to a homeless shelter. Have someone tell her about the problems with what she did.
A babysitter would be cheaper than feeding her in prison.
Best response yet.
The kids were extremely young, 45 minutes in Arizona sun can be serious--the "glasshouse effect" is not to be trifled with. It's likely she didn't expect the interview to last 45 minutes. We don't know that she couldn't get a friend to babysit, but I can see that circumstance as well. Authorities had to do something in the situation.
But clearly, this called for something other than mindless rule-following by the authorities. At this point, the media is--as usual--playing up the greatest possible penalty angle...we don't know that more intelligent solutions won't come to the front before long.
Unfortunately, it's probably cost her that job.
As to how she planned to care for the kids if she got the job: She'd be able to afford childcare then.
Don't you think she would have done something differently if she had a choice?
Or do you assume she's just dumb?
So since every year too many babies die in hot cars, should there now be two standards, one for poor kids snd another for middle class and rich kids? It should be against the law to lock up more fortunate kids in a car and risk their lives, but poor kids don't matter?

Where did you find those answers that you highlighted in red in the response to middleagedmom? I didn't see any of that information in the link in the OP. Did you continue to read all the links you could find about the story? If so...you're calling someone else nosy?
