Why do YOU choose to ignore the fact that so many Democrats were in favor of civil rights? Is it just so you can pretend that racist Southern Democrats represent the "real" Democratic Party, and ultra-liberal, anti-racist Democrats were somehow Republicans in disguise?

If so, then you're the one who's lying. No matter how many times you repeat the lie and mock those who point out historical truths that make you uncomfortable.

The same thought came to mind as soon as I read the thread title.

It's like people don't honestly understand how parties change in policy.

Please.

As if racist Democrats were going to flee to the Republican Party after the GOP supported the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

You believe a myth.

YOU tell ME why it goes on so long and gets so repetetive.
Who's fighting for their lives? All your thread suggests is that you don't understand the history of what was going on at the time. I would suggest you buy some books on the civil rights era to help learn more about that topic. It is a very fascinating time in history.

When a tea party candidate wins a GOP nomination, whose base nominated him or her? I've seen it happen here: An establishment Republican losing to a tea party candidate. Seems like the same base to me. If I'm wrong, please explain.

To the OP: Roll calls from 50 years ago do not amount to "...have always..."

TeaParty only represents less than 20% of most Republican views. Mostly older Americans.

Yet that is exactly what happened when Lyndon B Johnson a Democrat signed the Voting Rights Act. Bother to read my post detailing the GOP southern strategy which is an admitted GOP tactic to recruit racist southern whites in huge numbers.

So, young men and women from 20-45 who are raising children are "older" people?

And I wish regular Republicans would stand up and push out the Tea Party and their extremist views instead of catering to them.

Democrats have consistently been discriminatory racially....when discriminating against blacks got more votes, they favored racial discrimination of blacks, then when they got more votes by discriminating against whites, they went that way.

Repubs have always favored racially neutral policies.
