Sure, until that moment when the Bad Guys come through your door, and you go for your gun which has been in the closet for two years, only to find out that the battery has died on the fingerprint reader and you're completely DEAD.
Any gun owner who left their weapon untouched in the closet for two years probably shouldn't have a gun in the first place.
Indeed it would, if it locked anyone out of using the firearm for its intended legal purposes.Totally disagree.
Ok let me try and examine your first statement because I want to make sure I understand your complete intent because I can see a bit of question marks.
Now at first glance I think you're saying that it could malfunction and keep someone from legally using their gun and the problem I would have with that is that any gun can malfunction and "lock" someone out of using it.
If we add this tech it doesn't keep you from bearing arms, you can still own and possess weapons allowing you to continue to freely bear arms.
I have to agree. Firearms require continuing care and maintenance. One's skill in using a firearm safely and effectively also requires regular practice.
The Justice Department is considering bringing gun tracking bracelets into federal gun control efforts, Attorney General Eric Holder said Friday.
Holder told a House appropriations subcommittee that the DOJ wants to “explore†gun tracking bracelets and other technological innovations as part of its gun violence prevention programs, the Free Beacon reports.

No. I'm speaking only in terms of the device locking out those who need to use the firearm because they don't have the right biometrics (or whatever) to unlock the safety, etc.

The tech isn't necessary to keep and bear arms. Such can exist without the tech. It's only a safety device. Make it optional, like childproof cabinet door locks.
Oddly enough, given our past posting history, I completely agree.
I was just thinking the exact same thing.
