And no the average citizen does not need to know every detail of our covert ops. Thats why its best not to tell a politician any secrets. It becomes a foot race to the media to see who can spill their guts first.

That's right! We should give up this silly notion that the US is somehow a special place and try to become more like other places in the world.

Need an answer? Torture works the best. We have chemicals in the arsenal, let's gas those dang insurgents! After we're done with that maybe we can get some volunteers for a government sponsored suicide bomber program, if we're really lucky maybe we can find some pilots to fly planes into buildings.

Think about it, let's lower our standards to those of others.

As an added benefit it'll certainly solve our illegal immigration problem, no one will want to come here anymore.

Sounds like a plan

I guess the Brits would recognize a nation being destroyed from the inside, as theirs is ALREADY destroyed. But they are right, we are well on our way. And once we are leveled on the same playing field as all the other third world nations, it is true, noone else will come....cuz they will already be here!

These visitors were here for their second or third visit to our country. This visit, they were touring the Midwest because they wanted to "see the real America"...

It's always easier for someone outside to see objectively - no matter what the issue.

I don't think that they meant to be critical.. it was an outside observer's take.

Americans are so busy arguing about Politics that they have lost sight of the big picture.

The rest of the World is watching - they have for years!

Are they playing by the rules?...

so, when dealing with suicide bomber candidates and others, ask them nicely! Feed them steak and potatoes... and send them back home with some spending money in their pockets.

That'll teach them..

Playing fair and being nice as you described it in your post isn’t the answer and the sarcasm won’t find answers. However with real leadership in our government maybe things could change and become better?

Rules ????? kinda like “laws”? Maybe if our government officials from the top down honored the laws instead of changing them or eliminating them to fit their needs the entire country would be better off, and the world would recognize just how truly great of a nation we are with our constitution and bill of rights. As it is now, the rest of the world wonders what happened here with our government and this administration.

What happened to a fair and timely trial? What charges have been made? What evidence do we have that the government is so afraid to bring someone to trial? What happened to due process? Simply holding someone as a prisoner doesn’t make him guilty of a crime! What happened to the right of habeas corpus and the Magna Carta?

If our government can’t stand for these principles then maybe it won’t stand much longer? It would indeed be a sad day in not only this country but the world.

Destroying evidence isn’t the kind of government that I want!

There was no "evidence" destroyed because there has been no charge of any crime being committed. Until there is some formal accusation of a law being violated there is no "evidence". Classified documents and recordings are routinely destroyed every day. It sounds to me like you are trying to make something out of nothing, as usual.

Ironically it is folks with your attitude that will do just that.

By destroying the tapes they are also removing evidence and making it very likely that they will go free. Yeay Cowboy Foreign Policy!

This all reminds me so much of "The Allegory of the Cave"...

Americans are up in arms about the rights of those who hate us and want to destroy our Country.

I'm very sorry to tell you but the rights of habeus corpus for everyday citizens are being usurped every day. Unless you're an important person that can somehow sell papers for the Press or get easy votes for a Politician... you don't hear about it (and, btw, many times our wonderful legal system doesn't protect your rights!)

Americans trust blindly that these laws and precepts are being enforced across the board and that these poor detainees are somehow being deprived of their God given rights...

It's about Protecting Our Constitution.... Our freedom didn't come without a cost.

BTW - If you don't want government who destroys evidence, don't vote for the Clintons again....

Sorry, OT - but, you brought it up!

There is no "right" of Habeas Corpus, and it can be suspended under the US Constitution.

Quote:
The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it. --- Article I, Section 9, Clause 2 of the US Constitution
