What about the 30 million illegals ? It's "not fair" that they don't get this free money is it ?

I would support it. It's a rehash of Milton Friedman's negative income tax.

Unfortunately, it will never fly with libs, because it would replace a bunch of 6-figure bureaucrats in DC with a simple computer program. Can't have that.

Swiss consider welfare overhaul with guaranteed income - YouTube
Uh, what? This is called pandering to the welfare class. Why would anyone think that the left or their constituency would ever be for this? You realize why this would never work, even if it passed?

a) The welfare system is not about the recipients. Understand that billions of dollars are siphoned off to support the liberals who constitute the bureaucracy. That's the biggest reason this would never fly. Even if you said "let's take all of the money -- 100% -- we spend on welfare and just divide it up and give it lump sum to the welfare recipients" it would never work.

b) Why are you thinking anyone would say "$12,000 is enough for them!"? You could give them $30,000 each and people would still be out there in the streets screaming about how "you expect someone to live on $30,000???" Yeah, it's $12,000 free money, but nobody would care.

It would create a smaller government.

Those 83+ means tested programs would disappear and with them thousands upon thousands of government jobs since they are no longer needed. We might even see some "agencies" disappear as they would no longer be needed.

The first two characters in NAFTA stand for North America. There are no seas separating the US from the rest of North America.

The U.S. has granted most countries "most favored nation" status going back to the 1800's.

Can we try getting our federal government's wild spending spree under control first? The answer to a depressed economy, $100 trillion in unfunded liabilities, due to runaway federal spending.... is not MORE free stuff, and MORE federal SPENDING!!!!

This is impossible, it won't happen.

You know what's pretty funny. Yesterday Liberals were all freaked out because some woman in Florida died because she didn't qualify for Medicaid when she made 11k per year. 12k will make people unable to attain medicaid too right? What a conundrum for the left!

It's a seed planted in Progressives' minds though.

"just print the money and give it to people"

But the left have poisoned the nation, so that more and more people think they can solve all their ills by voting to give themselves free taxpayer money from the US Treasury; something the founding fathers greatly feared.
