Interesting.

"So far, researchers don't know why cases of asthma are increasing at such an alarming rate. They hypothesize that a combination of genetics and some non-hereditary factors — such as increased environmental exposure to potential allergens. "Thirty years ago, Windex was the only cleaning solvent used by a few people. Now, we have a special cleaning solvent for every object," says Dr. Bautch. "In addition, furniture and carpets are produced with formaldehyde as a preservative, and people breathe it," he says."

But in places where there are coal power plants, many more people suffer negative health symptoms than the people in surrounding areas. For instance in Michigan’s Wayne County there are coal power plants, and Wayne County has the highest number of pediatric asthma cases in the state.

These coal power plants are not like your family's coal business, rather they are huge industrial complexes letting out all kinds of dangerous pollution.

Reporting in from Arizona. So far no casualties but I haven't seen my neighbor for a week. He could be on vacation or is possibly a coal war victim lying dead in his house.

Obama policies will have exactly ZERO effect on the climate, since carbon emissions will grow substantially due to increased coal use by the Chinese and Indians. His policies' only result will be to reduce American prosperity.
I completely agree with you, but I don't think Obama really has America's best interests at heart. He is using his office as a platform with which to launch his own personal liberal socialist leftist worldview which includes radical environmentalism, abortion, and the redistribution of wealth not just on a national level but on a global level (hence the support for illegal immigration and increased foreign aid.) He simply just hates the coal industry and believes in Al Gore's lies and the lies of other radical left wing liberals. Obama has many loyal cadres who follow him like sheep and worship him as the Liberal Messiah, and yet we conservatives were accused of being sheep when bush was in office!

The people who still worship Obama today (even after the war on coal and the devastating effects of Obamacare and illegal immigration) have got to be as hooked on his cult of personality and his brainwashing as the followers of Kim Jong Il.

The liberals and Democrats are also trying to stop American coal exports to other countries.

Obama's War on Coal - Conn Carroll

Many of the disturbing details are in this article. The liberal Democrat governors of Oregon and Washington are also trying to prevent the building of coal terminals in their states through which coal from other US states can be exported to China. They oppose it even though their states will benefit from new jobs constructing and operating these ports.

The EPA may force the Navajo station into upgrades which will passed on to the consumers in Arizona. There is really no alternative except using coal.
This is when I wish the Native Americans will take the EPA and Obama to court for violation of tribal sovereignty. If they are allowed to build casinos on their own land I'm sure the Indian treaties and the establishment of the reservation gives them a lot of leeway in terms of power generation on their own land as well. To think of it the Obama regime is pretty racist against American Indians, shutting down their power plants and refusing to let the Alaska Natives build a simple dirt road because it offends the liberal sensibilities of the liberal yuppie voters in New York and San Francisco who are caught up on the rights of bears and fish.

If you want my opinion there is three major contributing factors. In the same time span that these cases have increased you have also seen the use of insulation rise, products like tyvek, air tight windows etc. Houses don't breathe like they used too. There has also been a switch from the traitional hydronic heating to cheaper ducted heating/AC. Those systems can harbor the "nasties" and easily distribute them around the house. Last but not least kids spend a geat deal more time indoors.

yes the liberal media points out that coal production has only declined a little since Obama took office. FIrst of all, the worst is yet to come as the EPA regulations on power plants and coal mines take effect. Plus with China and India using lots of coal and not being able to make enough on their own, the US coal industry should actually be booming and expanding as we export to China and India but Obama is cutting these exports with help from liberal Democrats across the country.

In the southern half of West Virginia, eastern KY, southwest VA and much of Pennsylvania there IS NO ALTERNATIVE to coal. We who live here know this. The land is not suitable for agriculture and transportation is difficult as the Obama administration also refuses to give us back our fair share of gas taxes so we can complete important routes like the Coalfields Expressway and Corridor H. Right now there simply is no other feasible industry in most of Appalachia besides the coal industry. This is an undisputable and undebatable fact that the liberals and Democrats refuse to face.

In northern WV there IS natural gas, but now the liberals are turning against natural gas too especially with the opposition to fracking. Liberal Hollywood has already come out with a number of propaganda films opposing domestic production of natural gas like Gasland and Promised Land.

In my part of the West, coal is not an important industry. It's just not economically viable since most of the electricity in the PNW comes from either hydropower or nuclear.

I have nothing against coal as a power source, as long as it is harvested and burned in an environmentally responsible manner (provided it's used in this country.) However, I don't support propping up the coal industry just because it's there.

On another note, looking at the article it makes a big deal about not being able to burn coal at home. Maybe it's because I've never lived in coal country, but is that even still a thing? Do individuals still use coal-fired stoves in their houses? I was under the impression coal was used mainly for power plants and heavy industry running furnaces and incinerators and the like.

I'm waiting for a group of environmentalist to claim that they have found an insect that only lives in coal fields, that way they can shut down all coal mining operations to do a 50 year study of said insect, kind of like the way they shut down the logging industry in the Pacific Northwest with the Spotted Owl.
