Obamacare to force Northwestern U. to buy maternity coverage for its football players

Katherine Timpf
Reporter@kctimpf on Apr 02, 2014 at 2:09 PM EDT

Northwestern University will have to pay for maternity coverage for any of its football players who enroll in Obamacare.

Northwestern became the first school in the nation to deem its players full-time employees last Wednesday. Because the school team has more than 50 employees, it also qualifies as a “large” employer, and therefore must offer pregnancy-related care to the all-male team, according to an article in Rare. As full-time employees, the team will also be able to vote on whether or not to unionize.

“In the world President Obama lives in, college football teams are now unions, and the government is paying for maternity coverage for 18-year-old boys,” Nebraska senatorial candidate Ben Sasse said in a promotional video called “Pregnant Football Players.”

Pelosi will soon push for maternity leave for these struggling moms.

Just like private insurance. Just like private insurance and Obamcare covers vastectomies, viagra and penis pumps in coverage for women. Insurance companies force people to pay into a pool that covers a lot of different things. This is nothing new, and is how health insurance is provided.

This is not an outrage about Obamacare, it's more of an expose on American's ignorance about how health insurance works.

So much this. Its like people don't understand that they're buying insurance as a GROUP. Every time I see someone posting stuff like this I want to scream "why are you so ignorant? WHY?"

The answer of course is-they probably know better down deep, but love the sound of the argument.

So much this. I pay for maternity coverage even though I'm infertile. No problem there - it's part of a pool. Unless the entirety of the Northwestern football team has had vastectomies or are infertile, their actions are more likely than mine to result in pregnancy.

It's not just that. These plans cover many people...likely the coaches, faculty, and staff as well as the players. The plan covers the not only them but their families and children as well.

We can either assume the OP doesn't know how insurance works, or he is willfully lying....

It takes two to tango. They are paying to care for the babies they make & the women they impregnate.

I have questioned and corrected these misconceptions a number of times, it's not really an assumption anymore.
