However did the tortoise survive when millions of buffalo and antelope grazed and pooped all across their habitat?

BTW, tortoise eat cow dung. It's full of beetles, grubs, moisture, seeds, and tender plants, which is great food and nutrition for the tortoises. The tortoise don't have teeth, so the cow dung is pre-chewed and an excellent source of food for a toothless, tortoise.
Please keep your facts and logic out of this. Harry Reids money is at stake here, we don't have time for that.

Government plans to euthanize hundreds of threatened desert tortoises it was supposed to protect ? RT USA
So our government loves desert tortoises to death? Glad to see Russia Today is on this important piece of news, no chance of bias here!

Someone better tell BLM they plan to kill a threatened species, it's against the law! So far, BLM doesn't report this crime on their website - Southern Nevada District Office

Considering this program is in partnership with the rather well funded San Diego Zoo, someone better tell them too - SDZ Global Wildlife Conservancy - What We Do - Restoring Nature - Desert Tortoise Conservation Heating Up

Lets see, 5 trillion in spending, and not even $50 for a tortoise? Amazing how government misplaces money.

Once upon a time I read less than 1% of endangered species were saved, seeing as our governments protection seems to include rounding up then killing off to extinction, I'm beginning to understand the problem.

Uh they're most likely being euthanized because the habitat can't support their population because of scofflaws like Cliven Bundy.

Do conservatives seriously not understand basic biology and ecology and land management? Oh right, you believe Noah put two of every animal on a boat 4000 years ago but he forgot the dinosaurs.

So lets see, where millions of buffalo's once roamed in peace with the desert tortoise, we can no longer support 400 cows?

You may wish to consider a job with BLM, your logic is flawless (but keep out the Noah's Ark thing, apparently killing animals to extinction is the method BLM employs as conservators).

How do you square your new insight to the OP, who claimed it was failure to pay grazing fees on 400 cows?

LOL. Sounds like a fine idea.

FYI bundy not paying the grazing fees had nothing to do with the ineptitude with the managment of tortoise program.

NV space just isn't big enough for such a small time cattle rancher. Bigger plantations to run.

Bundy hasn't paid a grazing fee since 1993; he owes a huge amount in fines. It's over-grazing that destroys the habitat. As you correctly noted, herds of buffalo and antelope migrated, and that was Mother Nature's way of keeping things in balance. A herd of cattle, however, must be moved through human intervention; Bundy's cattle have been roaming in the same area for quite awhile, which means buffalo grass and other desert forage for cattle will eventually be eliminated permanently. As for the turtles, the story is a bit different at this source:

They don't want to release them because they're worried about wild tortoises catching diseases from the captive ones. That's often why they don't release wild caught animals if they've been in captivity for a long time.

Your reach is as wide as the Grand Canyon. An uneducated liberal mind never ceases to astound me.

The Conservation closing up shop in 2014 has absolutely nothing to do with Bundy.

The gubmint has done a bang up job of killing a whole bunch of animals lately...liberals support that?

Wow.
