It IS the public's money, not just one segment of the public and not the bureaucrats. And certainly NOTthe NEA's, although they think that they should have no competition.

Very good, follow the money. So, if someone doesn't have a motor vehicle, Should he/she have to help pay for the Interstates? The railroad network? Should a Christian Scientist have to pay to help support hospitals/clinics/local health department? What about indigent health care? If he/she is a vegan, should he have to help pay for meat inspections? Should she have to underwrite cattle ranching out West by charging ridiculously low rates for pasturage?

We live in a society - and implicit in there is that we give up certain freedoms in return for roads, police, fire department, schools, hospitals, libraries, etc. If you want to pick and choose - you're free to do so. But if you want to live at the level of 1776 CE, there are a lot of skills and tools that you have to acquire. Fortunately, leeches are pretty much free, and barbers can (or used to) do your dentistry work to boot (one-stop shopping, as it were) ...

If we had school vouchers, where every kid in the neighborhood could potential go to many different schools, who would get them there and back. I'm ok if parents are responsible for their transportation but I get a feeling here that many wouldn't do that

They want to keep the masses uneducated so they won't see what they are doing. They make vouchers seem like a good thing when in fact, it will DESTROY the fabric of this nation.

We (as a nation) should put MORE money into public schools & education. When the majority of citizens are educated, EVERYONE benefits.

If they turn their noses up at public school, they can open their own wallets and look elsewhere - they don't need to collect Welfare from me.

Don't we pay enough taxes for the public schools, instead of funding schools for what used to be the domain of the the wealthiest?
The federal department of education needs to be completely shut down .

All control over education should be returned to the individual states.

Then let the states decide what is best.

Whatever average amount of money is allocated per student, should be able to follow them to whatever school they choose.......even if it pi&&es off the Demodummies and teachers unions.

I agree... let those with children pay for their education, don't take Welfare from me to school their children.

And that right there is why we will always have unequal access to a high quality education in the U.S. Poor students will forever be handicapped by being forced to attend their abysmal local public schools.

No, taxpayer money brings government strings attached ( dumbed down curriculum and political correctness) and then you have crony schools not private.
Government taints everything it touches, private schools and home schooling are the future.

No. We're having enough trouble funding public schools.
