My experience with the healthcare system has definitely degraded compared to last year, and I place all the blame on Obamacare. Here is what I experienced when I went to see my doctor for a few issues:
Copay had jumped from $25 to $35.
I go into the exam room, and the nurse wants detailed explanation of my problem. When I told her that I had more than one issue, she said, "Oh, I don't know if he will have time to talk to you about that. You are scheduled for only 10 minutes".
Wow, is there any other profession that makes $35 bucks for only 10 minutes? I miss the days when a doctor was willing to talk about all my problems and discuss a game plan instead of being rushed in and out like cattle. Ten minutes isn't enough time to do a good examination, but this is the future under Obamacare, and it will only get worse.
Thankfully, the doctor did take a bit more time to discuss a new way to treat my cholesterol since my insurance plan would stop covering all cholesterol name brand and generic drugs on May 1st. I can thank Obamacare for that one too.
never said they were. in fact of all the nurses i know personally, only one is an FNP.
swagger, dont dismiss what katiana has to say about the medical profession, good nurses know whats going on in the profession because they are constantly recruited by head hunters who are always looking for quality people. i know this because my mother, retired after more than 55 years in the field, is STILL being recruited for jobs.
just goes to show that my opinion is still correct, nurse are some of the greatest people in the world.
Actually, I was responding to the person ahead of you about NPs.
Anyway, yes, I got "recruited" one day taking a tour of a hospital.
Thanks for the kind words!

Copay has been $25 for years until 2014. The insurance company specifically stated the rate change was due to the ACA. Going to see a specialist jumped from $35 to $70. So yea, I blame Obama.

that is exactly what our primary care doctor told us when Obama care was passed. She said, the intent was to keep every office visit to 10 minutes and she said no way could she do a good job in 10 minutes. Our copay didn't go up as much as yours, but we have medicare and it did go from 12 to $20.00.
first of all, that $35 is just the beginning of what the doctor's office gets for that office visit, but that being said; do you have any idea the overhead in running a medical office? the $100 plus for an office visit has to pay for the building, the office staff, the utilities, mal practice insurance and don't forget the hundreds of thousands of $$ the doctor put into his/her education.
I work in a doctor's office. When patients tell me they have multiple issues in addition to what they're coming in for, I tell them to bring them up and the doc will tell them whether s/he can address them now or have them make another appt. Most of the time, the doc is willing to discuss the other issues, time permitting. The corollary to this is patients complaining about the dr. being way behind schedule.
My orthopedists will only treat one issue, but again, it is because of his trying to keep on schedule as much as possible. And, yes, if you ask him about another ache or pain, he will see what he can do. I have no problem with this. Our primary care doctor will listen to all our needs, especially when we have our annual or semi annual check up.
I will add one thing though: we have lost 2 of our doctors in the past few months (actually hubby's doctors) both let us know it had to do with Obamacare: one retired altogether, the other went to work for the VA hospital
