Her actions resulted in his character and authority being questioned. He retaliated against her. The issue of him being against homosexuals and not wanting them around him or his family may be a side issue. If it is, then he's just an overall crap person to be a Mayor.
Might be a side issue, this is the issue. He didn't even have authority to fire here from what I have read, couple that with his statements and I see a rather large lawsuit in the very near future for Latta, SC. It would be best to restore her position but doubtful.

I don't support him but, he's the mayor of a town with a population of 1,357.....Mayberry probably had more people than that....you had to do some digging to find that conservative homophobe.

Evidently it will not be for being gay as 29 states can still fire for that offense. A 23 year veteran handed 7 reprimands in one day and fired for not signing them, I will go with the defense for wrongful termination.

A homophobe mayor fired a 20 year sheriff who is gay and was caught on open mike saying "I would rather have someone who drank and drank take care of my children than a gay person".
