Losing headcount for loss of need is standard in the military.
Last I saw, they were still enlisting. Like many middle management positions, lower level officers are sometimes let go due to a lack of need of a manager at their level.
There's also an "up-or-out" policy for military officers - if they're in a rank for 6 years and haven't been promoted to the next level in that time, they're expected to leave the service/retire/resign their commission.
If your goal was to be a career-military person because serving the country is what you've always wanted to do, and that rug was ripped out from under you, what would you say then?
Ive always wanted a job at Berkshire Hathaway also. Doesn't mean im going to get it, even with the best education and grades humanly possible.

This is true also. And with combat roles ceasing, there is less room for promotion.

Equal opportunities, not equal results...isn't that what you have said in the past when people don't get what they want because someone else is better at it?
If you want to be a career military person, you try to get into the positions they will always need in the military, like shipping and receiving.
Pretty much the careers always in demand in the military are, like you said, logistics. Plus, the really hard to fill ones that almost always require some type of security clearance.

I find it sad that right-wing talking points suddenly don't apply when it comes to the military. It's like some golden goose to them that can't be touched, soiled, or tampered with, like it's some kind of holy land and cutting the military is like blasphemy.
Why is this a surprise? pandering to gays, unions, hollywood elite, and now illegals.
"Are you better off than you were 4 years ago, which for 70%+ of Americans the response is a resounding "no".
The ability to join the military is just that the ABILITY, it by no way means that they will make room for them by downsizing current officers. That among other birther theories exists only in your head.
That this could be expected and it happened after each and every war has ended? Duh.

Ehm - like everybody else who gets laid off from their chosen career? There's no guarantee for lifetime employment in the military.
There's a reason British officers toasted to "Bloody Wars and Sickly Seasons".
