Well, at least the little money grubber does who wants to do away with all holidays because they interfere with business. But some of us enjoyed various holidays as a break from work and an opportunity to spend time with our families.

Following the logic of those I assume to be of the liberal persuasion on this board, why celebrate Memorial Day or Veterans Day? After all, soldiers kill people therefore it matters not how many of them have been wounded, disabled or died in service to their country, right? But to be utterly correct then it should follow that Labor Day observations should ceased immediately. I mean, why do we want to memorialize sluggards who drive up costs, whose pensions bankrupt states, counties and municipalities and who buy and sell our so-called representatives?

Why should New Year's Day be a day off; so people can get drunk the night before, make asses of themselves and we have a holiday for them to sober up? Pathetic! The first day of one year has 24 hours in it just like the last day of the year before so really now, what's there to celebrate? Last of all the infamous Independence Day. Now we used to celebrate it as the founding day of our country but since those same liberals appear to dislike it intensely, why should anyone celebrate it. After all, don't they know best?

Am I the only one who sees just how empty and fruitless this whole discussion is? There's a certain, niggling issue that hasn't been addressed and that I know will absolutely infuriate some and I think that's as it should be. This dreaded condition goes by the name, "Tradition!" Some of us who have been around awhile and who remember when schools taught hard subjects rather than indoctrinate students and when loving your country wasn't cause for derision kinda liked it that way and weren't all twisted in the nether regions by the idea that maybe this country has done some good in the world and perhaps there were elements of its history about which one could and should be proud.

OK! I'm done. Now all you little naysayers are free to go into a near-orgasmic frenzy about what I said while none of you have the guts to leave a country you consider to have no merits and purport to hate. Have fun! Meanwhile I eagerly await someone shrilly screaming out the clarion call of, "Give me political correctness or give me stomach ulcers, hives, hemorrhoids, and shingles!"

No, the culture that fights the best/hardest can win (sometimes, if they care to). Having better weapons doesn't make a culture superior. Mongol hordes would have been the best culture back in the 13th century, then.

So, are you a hypocrite who stays in a country you think was atrociously founded or are you a hypocrite because you've selectively chosen to ignore all of history?

By the way, 75 - 90% of the "indigenous (used extremely lightly) people were wiped out by diseases, not "genocide."
The nation's actions in the past don't have to bear down on the present, but they should be acknowledged. It's not logically inconsistent to criticize a country and stay there, and it's pea-brained to think that's the case.

Just because the past makes you uncomfortable doesn't mean it should be ignored. You think you're fighting political correctness, but you're just establishing your own half-filtered view of history that's equally wrong.

For some folks EVERY day is white guilt day. And they're quite vociferous in their observation of it.

If a culture ain't strong enough to repel invaders it don't matter how "superior" it is in other aspects.
