If I was a Dem I wouldn't be too upset. Obama isn't getting anything passed the next two years whether the Dems hold the Senate or not. So you let the GOP peak in 2014 and they are going to blow it the next two years which gives the Dems a better chance at the White House in 2016 than they would have if things continue as they are.
They two parties can't help but make asses of themselves when they have power.
I also agree that, historically, the Republicans have a very good chance of taking the Senate. 82 percent at this time seems a bit premature, but still, a very good chance.
Lots of time left until November. Things that Obama didn't care to do when he had control of congress for 2 years will be urgent and the GOP not caving in will prove that they are waging a war - some will buy it.
Sounds about right. But its still very very early yet, this election is theirs to lose, and historically....well...
Yep.
If anyone can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, the Republicans are it.
Last major election they had, the goal was to defeat a guy who had signed Universal Government Health Care into law. Republicans had been adamantly opposing the program, and filling the airwaves (when they could get on) for months with ads criticizing it. Its popularity was in the tank, and it was the signature program of the incumbent President. That Health Care program was so hated, that if any election should have been a slam dunk, that one was.
So who did they pick to run against him?
Another guy who had signed Universal Government Health Care into law.
Such people are actually extremely rare if you think about it, from both parties. I mean, how many of us ever get the opportunity to sign a piece of major Health Care legislation into law? Yet the Republicans managed to find one.
Yep, even though Democrats didn't turn out in as great numbers to vote for their guy as they had four years previously, fed-up Republicans (especially conservatives) stayed home in FAR greater numbers than THEY had in the previous Presidential election. And you know the result.
We can be optimistic about Republicans' prospects for taking the Senate in 2014, after the votes are counted. And no earlier.
