News as of right now,. they are following up on a few leads. But the fire captian says in these dry drought windy condtions it does not take much for a fire to get out of control.

At this point who knows. I see above post that arson suspect is being detained, my local news as of right now, did not mention this, why wouldn't they. If this is arson, on many of these fires, hope they catch the nut.

I hope 11:00 news talks about the arson suspect.

LOS ANGELES — The fire season here in the hot, dry West now lasts roughly 75 days longer than it did a decade ago, and nearly three dozen fires have been burning up and down California in the last two days, weeks before a normal season begins.

“It’s clear that climate change is playing a role,” said John Laird, the state’s secretary for natural resources. “We are the middle of the three driest consecutive years since records were kept. We’re in extreme drought in 100 percent of the state. There is no part of the state that is not vulnerable.” http://www.nytimes.com/2014/05/16/us...w&rref=us&_r=0

Or is takes people with a political, ideological, or criminal agenda to light the fires.

Yep, it happened in one of the Big Cypress fires in Florida. Some guy parked his car on a grassy enbankment, and it caught the dry grass on fire.

Southern California fires: Arson and bomb investigators probe cause

By Veronica Rocha, Jill Cowan, Tony Perry
May 15, 2014, 4:14 PM

Arson and bomb investigators were looking into what caused the devastating San Diego County wildfires, several of which burned close to roads, officials confirmed Thursday.

Several people were interviewed at the scene of the Lakeside fire near Aurora Drive when it started just after 5 p.m. Wednesday, said San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore.

Authorities have urged the public to call local law enforcement if they see any suspicious activity. Gore said "nothing is too small" to report.

Escondido police briefly detained a man Thursday afternoon but released him.

I have a feeling deep in my gut that we are going to see a whole lot more man-made fires in California before the year is out.

And, my biggest question is - with the drought, where are they getting the water to put them out?
