Even with the lower COL, Mississippi's rate of poverty is much worse than the US average.

Oh, you forgot to mention that.

Oh, you forgot to mention that.
MS also has a higher rate of black population than the rest of the US, by almost 300%. Since a larger population of black people live in poverty, perhaps that accounts for the high poverty rate. High populations of poor people.

How do you figure that? Cite sources that adjust for cost of living.

Well a lot of cities around the nation have stop and frisk like policies. But yes those problems exist in many northern cities, but is not the equivalent of the Jim Crow south during the 1960's and that was the point I was making.

Same, but different?

Just how far are you willing to go to defend racist policies when they exist in blue states? Is it okay to be racist there because they vote Democrat?

Spotlight on Poverty and Opportunity

A food insecurity rate of 20.9% speaks volumes!

PS: Their median income is simply too far below the US median to be offset via COL. Bear in mind, I live in a low COL, and our MTSA's median income vastly exceeds Mississippi's.

Heaven help us, the day our goal is to have a US economy as dreadful as that state!

Applying reading comprehension and context would help a lot when responding to other posters.
This is the part of my post the other poster was responding to when he mentioned stop and frisk.

The reason so many black people left the south was to get away from this state ran terrorism, and while the north had huge problems as did the west, they didn't terrorize black people like the southern states did as a matter of policy.

That poster brought up out of context stop and frisk which if a person knows anything about the Southern states had this thing called the convict lease system which is on the surface much worse than stop and frisk.

It was a form of bondage distinctly different from that of the antebellum South in that for most men, and the relatively few women drawn in, this slavery did not last a lifetime and did not automatically extend from one generation to the next. But it was nonetheless slavery – a system in which armies of free men, guilty of no crimes and entitled by law to freedom, were compelled to labor without compensation, were repeatedly bought and sold, and were forced to do the bidding of white masters through the regular application of extraordinary physical coercion
