Do you even know why?

Preparing for "the zombie apocalypse" prepares you for all ranges of natural and human made disasters. Power and communication outages from a solar flare or EMP? Covered if you're ready for zombies.

Hoards of people looking for food due to a break down in the national infrastructure? Zombies

Foreign invasion? Zombies.

You name it, the list goes on and on. Its why preppers say they are preparing for the zombie apocalypse. Because they are essentially ready for all situations.

?? They very blatantly stated that it's a training manual to show people how their systems work and they chose the zombie thing on purpose just to throw a little fun into it since the scenario would tie together a lot of aspects and situations that they have to deal with.

You didn't read past the headline and then posted it here right away, didn't you.....?

Pentagon isn't planning for the Zombie apocalypse, they're teaching new officers how to make plans in the first place. Sounds perfectly cromulent to me.

It's wise to read past the headline before posting an article.

Here's the CDC's page on preparing for the ZO.

CDC - Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response: Zombies

And here's another one, by FEMA.

http://www.fema.gov/blog/2011-05-19/...bie-apocalypse

•Water (1 gallon per person per day)
•Food (stock up on non-perishable items that you eat regularly)
•Medications (this includes prescription and non-prescription meds)
•Tools and Supplies (utility knife, duct tape, battery powered radio, etc.)
•Sanitation and Hygiene (household bleach, soap, towels, etc.)
•Clothing and Bedding (a change of clothes for each family member and blankets)
•Important documents (copies of your driver’s license, passport, and birth certificate to name a few)
•First Aid supplies (although you’re a goner if a zombie bites you, you can use these supplies to treat basic cuts and lacerations that you might get during a tornado or hurricane)

Same principle.

Actually, I read all of this to my daughter on the phone,LOL!

We ROTFL at how many discuss this like it's a freaking possibility!!!!!! Have you noticed how many books/movies there are featuring this?

This is why I don't do drugs!!!!!

"The plan -- which details the necessary steps that would need to be taken for public awareness, military contingencies, reconnaissance, the environment, and civilian authority -- ultimately adheres to the kill method preferred by The Walking Dead: the head shot. "The only assumed way to effectively cause causalities to the zombie ranks by tactical force is the concentration of all firepower to the head, specifically the brain," according to the plan. "The only way to ensure a zombie is 'dead' is to burn the zombie corpse."
The government appears to know how ridiculous this all sounds, but they concocted the plan as political cover for dealing with more real world threats. As CNN reports, the document claims:
"Training examples for plans must accommodate the political fallout that occurs if the general public mistakenly believes that a fictional training scenario is actually a real plan. … Rather than risk such an outcome by teaching our augmentees using the fictional 'Tunisia' or 'Nigeria' scenarios used at (Joint Combined Warfighting School), we elected to use a completely impossible scenario that could never be mistaken as a real plan."

Also, others will just laugh and think that I'm funny. If I mention a solar flare EMP that would wipe out the power grid in the US makes the unprepared uncomfortable. They don't like to even consider their perfect world may just go away in the blink of an eye.

I store a months worth of water, dried food, seeds, and I garden. I'm ready for that. Oh, not to mention I'm armed to protect me against the hoards of people looking to kill me and take what I have.

Hundreds of people swarming your property because they are hungry and trying to take all that you have? Sounds like a zombie to me.
