They'd love as Applebee's and other restaurants employ waiters and not minimum wage staff.
By the way, are iPads going to bring food to the table as well? Lol
Not yet, although there are some ipad controlled systems that could. This is automation, its coming one way or another and is going to destroy the low wage jobs. People like Mircea are all excited about it "showing them" without thinking about whats going to occur. Its a bit sociopathic to not understand that these are in many cases people working harder then the average......and be thrilled by them being "showed what reality is"...that their hard work has no value.
Some people simply think that flipping burgers in for 8 hours is just fun and requires no effort. Hilarious.
I personally don't believe in automation taking over in ff world because of the human factor: many people actually like to have a human contact or can't deal with technology

We have Wawas up here where they have been taking orders from touchscreens for decades. It really is a better user experience than dealing with some poorly trained individual who would rather be texting.
I was in line at Burger King yesterday when this girl placed her order and specifically asked for "no onions". She repeated the request three times to the cashier and said that yesterday her order was screwed up. She got her order and sat a table near mine and I watched as she unwrapped her burger. She rose up from the table and started to the counter. I looked up and said "onions?". She smiled and said "yes".

Follow the trends in Europe....
The Facebook generation loves anything techie.
Touch screens are big in Vegas too and have been in place for a few years now.
McDonald's orders 7,000 touchscreen kiosks to replace cashiers - Neowin
Electronic menus that replace physical beings is nothing new. Microsoft has been pushing its touchscreen computer, the Surface, which has mostly been a big hit at Vegas casinos, hotels, and clubs — where users can order from the table, play around with the image onscreen, and... "flirt" with people at other tables.

I ordered a burger with nothing on it and they gave me just a bun.."nothing on it", not even the burger
When I brought it back up to the cashier to show her everyone else on line laughed and shook their heads.
You won't get 100% automation but you will get pretty darn close to it.
And with that come less workers.
Big box stores with 8-10 self checkouts only need 1 person to watch over them.
That's 7-10 jobs eliminated.
