I disagree, and you cannot look at this in a vacuum.
Let's not forget that in this current PC environment we are going through, had they fired her, she would have likely sued for racial discrimination. With our racist AG Holder at the helm, they would stand little chance of defending themselves.
Additionally it would not be long before the race shake down merchants like Sharpton & Co were outside chanting, "no justice, no peace". It would take a sizable donation to both NAN & PUSH for them to go away. It still amazes me they get away with it, but with a complicit liberal media, it probably shouldn't.
Many times businesses are caught between a rock and a hard place. Look at what happened with banks and lending institutions who were forced by the government to issue loans to minorities who were at high risk to default. Sure enough they lost their shirts(or more accurately we taxpayers did) and it helped lead to the houseing crisis that plunged us into the recession.
So don't be so quick to throw Red Lobster under the bus because of the unlawful actions of one employee.
Nobody said they should have fired her on the spot, just that they should have fired her after the deceit was uncovered. They would have been at zero risk for a racial discrimination suit. A business who fires someone that dishonestly defamed their customers would never lose a racial discrimination suit.
The whole affair stinks, but I can't help but wonder, what would have happened if Mr. Barnes had been the waiter, and she the customer? How much in donations would he have gotten for having a racial slur launched at him, and how much sympathy from the public would he have received?
Anyone tampering with food this way should be horsewhipped.
Seriously... Don't like the wages you earn as a waitress? Then maybe you should go back to school and learn some marketable skills rather than misdirecting your failure at life by poisoning others.
So someone fulfilling a role in society that there is demand for, and that you participate in by gaining value from their labor, is a failure that does not deserve to be paid by you? Interesting viewpoint. How do you feel about slavery?

A. It was hyperbole (an exaggerated statement not meant to be taken literally.)
B. I'm not a waitress... or a waiter. I am an employer, a person who created a business out of nearly nothing after realizing that my degree conferred no marketable skills. (Speaking of which, anyone need some Biblical translation from Greek or Aramac? I do freelance :-)
C. My point was service quality declines tremendously when you don't pay your server. Your servers don't work for free. Gaining from someone's labor without paying them for it is immoral. Some people would even call it stealing.
And finally, when you don't tip your server, she doesn't contaminate your food. She cries because she has basically wasted an hour serving you with nothing to show for it. Selfish pricks.

If you are honestly trying to compare working as a waitress to being a slave, you need to go back to school for a remedial education.
Poisoning someone's food because they did not grant a tip in the amount the server feels they deserve reeks of self-loathing and harbouring feelings of frustration at your particular station in life. Again, if you do not feel that you are receiving enough financial award for whatever task you perform for a living, go back to school and learn a marketable skill that you can sell to an employer to improve your station in life. Don't "get back at the man" by tainting someone's food is some disgustingly lame attempt to "even the score".

A tip is not a mandatory part of eating at a restaurant, it is an optional extra given to the server as a reflection of the quality of service received. To be clear, I do leave the standard 15% if the waitress does her job, and 20-25% if the service is exceptional. However, if the server is lazy, never offers to provide drinks, has an attitude or is rude to me, they won't receive anything at all (and I most likely will never return to that establishment ever again). Expecting a wage for failing to perform the most basic tasks associated with your job function is also immoral. In fact, some people would even call it stealing as well.
Nonsense. 10% is standard for table service. 0 is standard for a to-go order.
Surely you're not living in the USA.
