Happy switch is a term used by Vietnam vets to designate the selector switch on an assault rifle. We used to have what we called a "Mad Minute" where every body could do a mag dump and go full auto into the jungle just to let off steam and relieve the tension.
Selector switches from safe, to single shot to full auto. Some have a burst mode of 3 rds also. Without the happy switch there really is no way to tell if an AR or AK, for that matter, is semi or a full auto unit.

That's because nobody has one on their sporter. I've been collecting military weapons for over 35 years. That's what volume means.

In the Marines (back in the late 90's when I was a Machinegunner) they changed the name of the "Mad Minute" to "Recon by Fire". Never got to do it that much, can only imagine how much fun it would be.

So, it would be okay if they carried shot-guns or bolt-action rifles....got it.

The easiest way to destroy anything, is from within.

You join the NRA; co-opt supporters; gain power and then implement your agenda, which would result in the ultimate destruction of the NRA and loss of support, plus the benefit of massive anti-gun legislation.

Hundreds of examples throughout history all over the Earth.

ACLU -- heavily right-leaning co-opted by the Left-Wing. Young People's Socialist League co-opts the Social Democrats. Any number of religious movements have been destroyed or castrated, because they got co-opted.

The Republican Party is still reeling after nearly being destroyed by X-tian Fundamentalists.

McCarthy would be another example. Roy Cohn co-opts the spy investigation by starting a 3-Ring Circus in the House of Representatives and then attacking Hollywood figures....turning public opinion and shutting down the investigation....which was the goal in the first place...protect the spies at all costs...a few people in Hollywood had to be sacrificed for the "greater good"....that's how it goes.

The Red Book works....

Here are some thoughts about this subject from someone that can actually support or take away your gun rights real or perceived

Scalia: Guns May be Regulated - NationalJournal.com

Quote:
It will have to be decided in future cases," Scalia said on Fox News Sunday. But there were legal precedents from the days of the Founding Fathers that banned frightening weapons which a constitutional originalist like himself must recognize. There were also "locational limitations" on where weapons could be carried, the justice noted.

Open carry is a whole different matter as it conveys a threat of violence by the carrier. It's irresponsible gun ownership and frankly poor citizenship in my opinion.

Is that why special privileges allow cops to open carry.
So the 2nd amendment right, has been relinquished to a privilege, without even a mention of an amendment to the constitution.
