And yet MANY Asians DO receive welfare benefits in one form or another. Many Asians utilize private community-based organizations that obtain social welfare resources for their community so while they aren't standing in line at the "welfare office" they are receiving services provided through social service/welfare. I was at a farmer's market in the heavily Asian city of Torrance, CA. Nearly ALL of the older Asian women were paying for their items with "vouchers". I asked one of the vendors what those "vouchers" were for and was told that they were basically food stamps.

SOUTHEAST ASIANS HIGHLY DEPENDENT ON WELFARE IN U.S. - NYTimes.com

More than 30 percent of all Southeast Asian households in the nation now depend on welfare for survival, according to a report on the economic diversity of Asian-Americans released Wednesday in Washington. Among some groups, like Cambodians and Laotians in California, the percentage of those on welfare reaches 77 percent.

Two Illegal Aliens Sentenced for $1.4 Million Food Stamp Fraud - Tea Party

Two Korean citizens in the United States illegally were sentenced last week in Baltimore to prison for obtaining over $1,400,000 in payments for food sales that never occurred as part of a food stamp and wire fraud scheme. U.S. District Judge George L. Russell III gave Hyung Cho 38 months in prison and three years of supervised release and his mother, Dae Cho, 18 months in prison. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the District of Maryland, “Both defendants resided in Catonsville, Maryland and are Korean citizens who are illegally present in the United States.”

There is absolutely no truth to that. None whatsoever.

Where there are large populations of Asians, Asian gangs exist and they exist in fairly nice numbers.

Those of us that live out west know better.

His experiences aren't the norm for the majority of any racial group. The thug life is the minority of the minority in every group.

That's not really the issue.

It's not rocket science, if you allow for lots of tech related selective immigration those people are going to be more highly educated. You can bet your hind end if China and the phillipeans bordered us to the south that we'd have a whole lot different perspective than the hordes of programmers, mathematicians and whatnot that we are letting in the country.

Not surprised this thread was started by the "lets drag everybody down, crabs in a bucket" demographic.

Frankly even though the model minority myth is just that a myth, there are definitely things that are pretty real and concrete.

Out of 1,200 New York City public schools, Shuang Wen ranked number three in math. And almost 97 percent of the students passed the reading test, compared to the city- wide average of only 33 percent.

CHOU: To us it's really not something we are -- in American culture, we say we are very proud of. But in Chinese culture, we say it's nothing. We should have done this.

LOTHIAN: High expectations are typically the norm for Asian American children. But when you consider the demographics of the community served by the school, the accomplishments stand out even more.

CHOU: We are Title I school with 70 percent population under poverty level. The majority are labor workers -- a lot of new immigrants. They're working at the restaurant or garment factories."

Most of our parents don’t believe in ‘gifted,’ ” said Riyan Iqbal, 15, the son of Bangladeshi immigrants, as he and his friends — of Bengali, Korean and Indian descent — meandered toward the subway from the Bronx High School of Science one recent afternoon. “It’s all about hard work.”

No student, they said, was off the hook. Riyan, the son of a taxi driver and a Duane Reade cashier, and his schoolmates said their parents routinely plied them with motivational tales about the trials they endured back home, walking to school barefoot, struggling with hunger, being set back by floods and political unrest. “You try to make up for their hardships,” Riyan said."

Not all these immigrants can here with a silver spoon in their mouths, alot of them went through hell to get into this country in the 1st place and even when they do its not like everything is a walk in the park.

"The city began offering a free test-prep program several years ago for black and Hispanic students, but after a legal challenge, other ethnic groups were granted the same access to the course. Today, 43 percent of the students in the program are Asian. Three years ago, Ting Shi was one of them. "

Again there is a FREE TEST PREP program AVAILABLE.

Seriously there is a movement to destroy public education in this country. No matter how low the bar is set, someone rises up and demands it be set lower.

Urban Asians have much a problem with gang activity as do Hispanics and blacks. Thing is, their numbers are much smaller than Hispanics and blacks, and cops are always profiling people based on their blackness and Hispanicness.
Kinda sounds like us "Irish" 100 years ago. Till "WE" took care of business; like many of us quit acting like drunkards and hooligans, we had a WORSE rep than even many Black people back then.

1 doesn't demand respect: 1 earns respect. Especially some people who "ID" with groups that have a bad rep might have trouble. Hell; many "less desirable minority" people WILL change out their names and ID with more successful groups who they might look like. Kinda like Gypsies saying they're "Greek", dark skin Hispanics saying they're "Italian" and so on. If that what it takes to earn respect: so be it.

1 Asian group that has both a very good AND a very bad rep are Vietnamese: either they're total losers OR the best of the best it seems in life. Word was it was even worse for them 20 years ago here in the US.

Lol...more like most of last century. Especially on the east coast.

I totally disagree, the percentages are far LESS than Black and Hispanic gangs, cite your info.

Just drive anywhere in any ethnic neighborhood and see the tell tale signs of graffiti pointing this out. Look at the far LARGER percentage of Black and Hispanic gangs you see on the street.

Look at who is arrested and incarcerated and get back to us.

If you are talking about professional criminals, that is another story.

BTW I lived out "West" nearly my entire life and know what you have posted is a GROSS exaggeration.

I'm not sure about all Asian gangs but the gangs in Chinatown don't mark their turf with graffiti. So that can explain why you don't see gang graffiti in Chinatown even though the gangs are there.
