Yeah, ANYONE can buy an aerial drone/remote-controled-camera-equiped flying-device. It's NUTS to be upset with the cops doing it. As I pointed out in a previous post the same wingnuts who argue that honest citizens shouldn't be penalized regarding owning assault weapons etc because of the actions of a relative handful of bad apples are the VERY SAME folks here saying that cops shouldn't be allowed to have drones because of the actions of a relative handful of bad apples.
Then again, common sense and consistancy has never been the hallmark of such people.

I dont think you really listen to others. A neighbor/ criminal violating your privacy with drones is bad and should be dealt with.
A US cop violating your privacy with a drone leads to a no knock invasion, your dog getting shot and your family tased while being hogtied. See rhe difference?

Since the Stingray device can be mounted in a police van and used to gather cell phone data in a given area, it can be used to obtain the identity of anyone involved in a political protest or meeting, so long as they have a cell phone turned on. Cell phones regularly interact with phone towers, or police devices masquerading as a phone tower, even when a call is not being made.
Yuu dont think a violation of the privacey with a drone by criminials isn't a violation of your privacy that can lead to a "no knock" home invasion by criminals?

It's so common it doesn't really even make the NATIONAL NEWS.
It's the very RARITY of that happening by police that MAKES IT NATIONAL NEWS.
So, you think it's OK for CRIMINALS to be able to buy such a drone but it's NOT OK for COPS to have them?

After the BPD initially refused public requests to see their surveillance files, the documents were turned over the to ACLU and National Lawyer's Guild (NLG) when the organizations sued for access on behalf of local peace groups and activists. The files had been retained for years, violating federal regulations that reports must be purged in 90 days if they are not connected with criminal or terrorist activity.
