Interesting article written back in June 2012 by Michael Hastings back in June 2012, he is of the opinion that prolonging the war had something to do with Bergdahl's non-release. Anyway good deal of history including a prior attempt to free him but the Taliban backed off.
Presidents don't get to say "this law is the law but it doesn't apply to me". It's still the law that also applies to the president until a court says it doesn't.

Presidents have, however, been doing that since Jefferson.

That is no justification. This President has gone bonkers doing damage to this country by breaking the law and defying the Constitution. I believe it is time to put a stop to it.
In the past our Presidents, regardless of their agendas, lived in a time when one had to pretty much pay attention to providing for one's self and family, plus all the rest of a lot of "natural" laws that either made or broke your life. Today's generations coming into politics ( seems to have started with those who reached majority age in the '60's) have had a very easy life, many without taking responsibility for their action or even having to provide for themselves. Now we have a President who is totally out of touch with America and certainly with anything and everything that is necessary to make our economy work and provide national security. Time to tighten obeying the law.

And Obama is no Thomas Jefferson
Seriously, what does that have to do with it. There was an exemption to the bill, overriding the
the 30 day notice to Congress. I just have a problem with a guy who was held for 5 years who
Congress knew about, all of a sudden had medical issues that made his circumstance grave.
I don't buy it.
He looked relatively healthy to me. And if it was pertaining to Bergy's mental health,
that guy was nuts when he was slithering through the grass in a village in Afghanistan, looking
for the Taliban in 2009.
Obama simply did not want to obey the law. A law he thought was unconstitutional, but signed
anyways...
