The differences between liberals and extreme conservatives is that liberals recognize that gun violence is an issue to be dealt with.
Chicago does have gun control laws, but last I checked, the residents of Chicago still have cars to travel to buy their weapons at gun shows.
The idea that more guns is an answer to gun violence is the same insane logic that would conclude that more nuclear weapons is the answer to worldwide nuclear proliferation. Most rational people would say that logic is insane.

Because murders do not happen in your neck of the woods does not mean that you don't have laws making murder a crime. Guns are the tools that violent people use to commit crimes. No secret there. The solution is not more guns, it is getting some of these guns off the street.

The guns and politically motivated radical liberal hit it's zenith with Vietnam and the ecoterrorists.
Guns and the anti-government movement was considered at least "oddball" to most conservatives during the Clinton years leading up to Waco/OKC.
Since Waco/OKC this has been simmering and now we have what otherwise seemingly normal people who are sympathetic to these two kooks and defending them.
RWNJs today are no different than say the left wing crazies of the 70s who supported the symbionese liberation army and such.

In my neck of the woods, crime is low and the people here are normal working to middle class folks. We don't have the criminal element that exists in the city. Guns or no guns the criminal element still exists. Most of the liberals here live in much more posh, snobby areas that is virtually a bubble. They'll pretend to care and stuff, but move on the next day and realize they have lives to live.

Instead of restricting the guns maybe we should restrict or police the crazies. Guns aren't the problem though. Take 2 Chicago neighborhoods about 6 miles apart, the homicide rate in Lincoln Park is 1.0, but over 30 in Austin. The people in LP have no need to go around shooting each other, but the median income is $50K higher in in LP than in Austin. Another neighborhood, Hyde Park had a violent crime rate of 558/100K vs 5405/100K for Englewood - which is literally steps away. However, the median income in Hyde Park is $45K vs $19K in Englewood and Hyde Park enjoys additional security due to the school.
The behavior is more that of liberals not conservatives.
