get real. the nuns didn't have to treat them badly, but they did. they thought these young girls were sinful and needed to repent for their "sins of the flesh". even in the article you posted said they would deny anesthesia for women during child birth so they would be less likely to sin again. the church did not show these women any compassion. quite the opposite.

women giving birth now are not given anesthesia---it's bad for the baby. that's just someone's opinion back then. they didn't need to do anything for them and let them stay on the streets but they took them in.

My wife took it.................anesthesia. Hey you dump that 8 pounder out it's gonna hurt. She broke her tailbone too. That was our first and we had twins after. Kids are great though. Love every minute with em......although now the xbox and cell phones get in the way. lol
