This is a new poll to see if people's opinions on this have changed by now.

I voted Yes, but only if a convicted individual requests it himself/herself. I generally oppose the death penalty due to the risk of innocent people getting executed, but if a convicted individual who is judged to be mentally sane wants to get executed, then I will support his/her request due to the fact that I myself support assisted suicide.

I say no, because by the time someone's done something heinous enough to be executed, they deserve worse than to simply have it done and over with. Not torture, but 24/7 solitary confinement for life with no possibility of parole in a 6'x6'x6' cell. Any lawyer interaction can be done via the cell door until/if a trial occurs.

What's the point in that? That is torture...

I voted yes, but the answer is actually no. I don't think it is justice, to lay someone down on a table, pump poison in to their veins, and let them quietly and calmly drift off in to an eternal sleep when they likely wrought torturous havoc on their victims.

Bring back the electric chair or the gas chamber.

Better yet, bring back public hangings.

As far as supporting it if the convicted requested it? Why on earth would I do that? If I were a judge, and the convicted asked me to give him/her the death penalty, that would be all the more reason to sentence them to a life spent in isolation and on suicide watch.

No, convicts don't get to choose their punishment.

You all look like fools, and I bet you're damn proud!

I'm simply gobsmacked at this point. All of you who chose anything but YES are probably the first to blame guns for all the violence, and then can't be honest enough to believe a murderer should be executed. You people should be ashamed of yourselves.

This country has become an idiot zone... seriously!

Allow a set amount of appeals, maybe 5 for example. After the last appeal is failed, schedule the execution within a year. Why bother wasting tax money on this convict for decades and decades of appeals.
