Supreme Court limits police searches of cellphones

WASHINGTON —- Cellphones and smartphones generally cannot be searched by police without a warrant during arrests, the Supreme Court ruled unanimously Wednesday in a major victory for privacy rights.

This is definitely a win for Americans!

Sounds like higher taxes will be necessary to fund the process of obtaining search warrants.

Yay!!!

Great win for the American people.

Thanks for the OP, urbanlife78.

I'm expecting the "liberals want martial law" comments. Surprise, most liberals are socially libertarian.

I doubt many local law enforcement care. They will still violate your rights to find something and when they do you will still be charged. Regardless of your rights. This is a win overall but something needs to be done to stop local law enforcement from encroaching on peoples rights as much as they do.
