Good point. Barack Obama is a good example of someone who never had a birth cert.

In the USA we enjoy the right to keep and bear arms. I'm guessing that you have absolutely no issue with people being required to provide ID to exercise that constitutional right.

  • Apply for the regular ID, the state would attempt to get the BC for you for free. They issue the ID for free on the spot as long as you have the BC or they can obtain it.
  • If the BC cannot be obtained a voting only ID will be issued on the spot that only requires the minimal documentation like your SSN and a utility bill, bank statement etc. Just for the hell of it will make it valid for 10 years.
  • This will be done while you wait in a single visit, if there is any issue they will take your picture and send you the ID once those issues have been resolved.

Does this sound reasonable?
Sure.

Of course, none of these IDs would have prevented the few cases of voter fraud that have ever been found, but hey, if it makes you feel warm and fuzzy and no one has to pay for anything to get it, go ahead and spend tens of thousands of dollars on it.

You have no idea of the extent of voter fraud and neither do I. This isn't a crime where you have a dead body and know a crime was committed and it's certainly not a crime that is actively investigated after the fact.

This would be like claiming a town with no cop didn't have anyone drive through a stop sign because no tickets were issued. If you don't have the means to identify people committing crimes of course there will be no one prosecuted for it.

We can however look at the potential for fraud and it's enormous.

U.S. Voter Registration Inaccurate, Costly, Inefficient - The Pew Charitable Trusts
  • More than 1.8 million deceased individuals are listed as voters.
  • Approximately 2.75 million people have registrations in more than one state.
  • About 12 million records have incorrect addresses, meaning either the voters moved, or errors in the information make it unlikely any mailings can reach them.

Thank you for offering up the real problem, which would not be solved by any number of voter ID laws.

It's REGISTRATION.

Now, back to spending taxpayer dollars like water on programs that won't solve a problem that doesn't even exist.

So much for the fiscally conservative GOP.

Potential and actual are 2 different things, this is the job of the election boards. Dead people being listed on voter records, incorrect addresses and voter registrations in multiple states are all understandable and do not equate to fraud.

A little over 50% of those eligible voted in 2012, voter ID's, reduced polling hours and locations will equate to less voters.
