The point is that pot smoking is not a victimless crime.
People pay for your stupidity - you drive under the influence of it and get into an accident you are doing WRONG. You are under the influence a lot longer from Pot then you are for alcohol. Someone can drink in a bar and not affect people around him (if he is following the law). You show me how someone can SMOKE in public and not affect anyone else's health..
You smoke it in public you make other people high against their will. And expose them to irritating smoke. I have rights too. And that includes not having to race for my inhaler because you feel like lighting up.
It is ILLEGAL to take Fentanyl without a prescription from your doctor. And good luck getting that unless you really need it. You know, if you are dying or have cancer??? So that argument is moot. Legalizing pot won't deter people from abusing narcotics.
I think you are right Azloafer..no end to debating with a pot smoker.
That is why we no longer speak to DH's mother. What a loser who never grew up.
Just want to know what people think about this subject. Why are you for it and against it. Please elaborate, thanks.
you can probably tell by my login name that i smoke weed. i am for it being legalized because The first and most basic reason that marijuana should be legal is that there is no good reason for it not to be legal. Some people ask 'why should marijuana be legalized?" but we should ask "Why should marijuana be illegal?" From a philosophical point of view, individuals deserve the right to make choices for themselves. The government only has a right to limit those choices if the individual's actions endanger someone else. This does not apply to marijuana, since the individual who chooses to use marijuana does so according to his or her own free will. The government also may have a right to limit individual actions if the actions pose a significant threat to the individual. But this argument does not logically apply to marijuana because marijuana is far less dangerous than some drugs which are legal, such as alcohol and tobacco.

It`s funny that in my last post I said I agree with everything said, and AZloafer and Winnie still act like I`m arguing against them. oh well.
I don`t however agree that smoking pot has any 2nd party victims, certainly not when used responsibly. It could be legal, just not in Public, or designated smoking zones or places.
It could also very well be argued that drinking, not smoking pot, is the gateway drug, since most people who have gotten into drugs have started drinking before anything else.
I don`t say legalize it because it will minimize other drug use, I say legalize because it is arguably less harmful than drinking and smoking cigarettes, and a person shouldn`t be considered a criminal just because they like to smoke marijuana. And because many thousands of other people feel the same way.

Ask any regular/heavy pot smoker= you are certainly NOT "high", or "under the influence" of pot as long as you are drunk(pot lasts about 3 hours max), and the influence is so much less debilitating. Your motor reflexes and coordination are not affected like when drinking. A drunk person at a bar is liable to get offensive, can get his/her car and risk people`s lives.
How can someone smoke in Public and not affect anyone`s health? First of all, why does it have to be in public? Secondly, if I`m not blowing straight into your face, it blows away into the atmosphere. Thirdly, it is illegal to drink alcohol in public, so there goes that argument. If there were pot cafes, like in Amstersdam, you and your inhaler would not have to go inside.....
I don't know about calling you MIL a loser. Thats kinda harsh don't you think? At least she isn't a crackhead or speed junkie.
Loser is the kindest word I can up with...
No she ain't a crackhead, she just destroys the life of everyone around her for pleasure..and keeps up the pot smoking like a chimmney while pregnant then laments when all her kids got diagnosed with ADHD...
Yup LOSER!!! Glad to not see her face for 7 years..

Did you not read the study I posted? Pot's effects last 1 month. Including memory loss and inability to recall things. Ask any heavy user?? Yeah that is a reliable source.
If pot is legalized then why would it be ILLEGAL to smoke it in public??? That would just be the next argument..
You are suffering from denial. And I am done trying to get through. This is not a benign drug, it is not alcohol or cigarettes (which destroy enough lives as it is) or comparable to it. It does not matter anyway since alcohol is legal, will continue to be legal for the forseeable and weed ain't. I don't see any huge push from the majority to legalize the drug. Unless it is in your dreamland haze you live in!

Oh, see, I thought you meant the immediate, "high" effect of the 2 drugs. In this case, well, the effects of crack cocaine also last only a few days, like alcohol, but it is so much more harmful than marijuana, agreed?
I was talking about the time of being high compared to that of being drunk. Most people know that pot chemicals are stored in fatty acids, so it stays in the system for about a month. But that doesn`t mean you walk around stoned for a month, oh no.

Well, I don`t know. Maybe for the same reason that alcohol is legal to buy, but illegal to drink in public??? Same with cigarrettes in some places.

I just don`t agree that weed destroys lives on the same level as alcohol and cigarrettes. Studies have shown that weed doesn`t cause lung cancer. You just don`t hear about weed-induced heart-attacks. You don`t hear about smoking and driving accidents. You don`t hear about getting beligerant or even violent after smoking. People don`t black-out for hours like some do on booze. You`re right, marijuana is not alcohol or cigarrettes, and not really comparable to it. Neither is strawberry milk!
Yes, smoking causes temporary short term memory loss- but why is that anyone`s business but the individual?

But isn`t that the whole topic here? Isn`t that the name of this thread? And I think 5 states have now legalized marijuana for medicinal purposes after california did, so I see that as a significant push from the majority of the people!
Good call on not trying to get through to me anymore. You`d need stronger arguments than temporary memory loss and a closed opinion.

Have you not updated your location or are you not a citizen of this country. Please clarify.
This country has gone to hell in a handbasket ever since drugs came pouring into here in the 70's. One of my highschool "buddies" is a pot head and misses more days of work than you can imagine. Same with MIL. It is all a big excuse. Noone ever gets hurt from you smoking the stuff. I have heard all the lines of BS and that is exactly what the whole pothead mentality is: BS.
I have a very open mind. I know more about pain killers than probably 99% of people on this forum. I also know quite a bit about psychology having taken more than 30 hours of advanced courses in the subject. My mind is wide open to learning and accepting non-traditional modalities of treatment - including pot, but not to listening to someone whine about why the knowledgable NIH has determined it to be a hazardous substance is all nonesense.
I don't need a stronger argument..the lack of others here to refute what I am saying says enough for me.
