I see your point but that is also why they are or should be trained law enforcement. These guys should be trained for this kind of thing. Seems like there isn't enough training to handle these all too common situations and excessive force is often used.
When I look at police offices I see not someone on a 9-5 but an elite and a person that should be able to protect me. Not someone who is a bit timid and afraid of a situation. Then again they are humans too....
Yes. They are humans. They have families with children that they want to go home to each night. Their main job is to protect you and I - their secondary job is to protect themselves.
Not all cops are the macho beat-your-face ones like in the movies. Finding good cops nowadays is extremely difficult - especially because anything and everything they do is scrutinized. "He should have done this, or done that" the speculations never end.
It's a demanding job that few can fill the shoes of perfectly.
And jumping on the "OMIGOD HE DID IT BECAUSE THE NOW DEAD GUY (Victim) WAS BLACK" bandwagon only makes the problem worse.

Yeah this part makes no sense. I still can't believe that going into the year 2008 color is still an issue
Now, when a cop or somebody starts using serious racial slurs and starts treating people like Tom Sawyer did to Jim and I'll jump on the racism bandwagon for that instance.
Surely you're not saying that issues of race can be present only upon the use of a slur, or Tom Sawyer-esque behavior?

They are trained. You meet deadly force with deadly force. A person with a knife can kill you within 21 feet before you even unholster your weapon!

Let me ask you this then.
How do you prove it was racially motivated? Does the dispatcher ask "Are you guys black?" then forward that to the arriving officers who think "kill that negro?"

I'm not seeking to prove or disprove anything. You're the original poster; you offered the story with your own slant; you've indicated your own pre-conception as to the voracity of the surviving family members. I don't care to change what's in your mind.
But I'm asking a question that's got some depth to it. That is, when are issues of race not a result of playing a "card"?
Unless coming from behind, are they really trained if a person with a knife can kill them within 21 feet?
Weren't their weapons already drawn?
For ANYONE, its within 21 feet. It takes practice, practice, practice. Within 21 feet, if you have a knife and advance towards police, you're going down. Maybe this particular police department doesn't have tasers...
Is there ever a time or situation when someone raises the issues of race and it isn't playing the race card?
Yes. When white people are talking about race - specifically, how hard it is to be white in America. *sheds a tear* Otherwise, it's WHINING and RACIST and DR. KING SAID that YOU'RE A PART OF THE PROBLEM and THE IRISH...and so on.
