WASHINGTON (AP) — Tax credits for families that don't qualify. Medicare payments for treatments that might not be necessary. Unemployment benefits for people who are secretly working. Federal agencies reported making $100 billion in payments last year to people who may not have been entitled to receive them.

Congressional investigators say the figure could be even higher.

"The amounts here are absolutely staggering," said Rep. John Mica, R-Fla. "It's over $100 billion each of the last five years. That's a staggering half a trillion dollars in improper payments."

Given that this is the agency that spawned Lois "Slow" Lerner and her magical computer problems, I cannot say this shocks me. Government at its best is ineffecient. Bigger government is just more ineffecient.

Improper payments by federal government top $100B
Most Tea Party types are up to their necks in these spending programs starting with Medicare. Find a Tea Partier who isnt on Medicare, Medicaid, SS, SSI, and SNAP. The survey only mentions the programs the gubbermint writes out checks or benefits. There is no mention of Defense spending, VA Spending or Tricare Spending. The Tea Party-Conservatives-Republicans have their hands pretty deep in the pocket of Uncle Sam. Almost impossible to find a Tea Partier who isnt on the gubbermint dole.

Child, please.

This thead is about the inability of the federal government to keep their books straight. This has nothing to do with anything you mentioned. Now go plug your motorized scooter in and try to stay on topic.

It's the tip of the iceberg.

The Obama administration has been stealing everything not nailed down for 6 years.
