Yes, I get that. The metaphor speaks to the triumph of reason over violence; diplomacy over war. I don't see how that applies to EOs. Not that our posts need precision, but it just seemed out of place.

Let's see -- Congress is out of session and scattered to the four winds. The Supreme Court is out until late August when they'll confer on what to bring up next October. There's really not much happening in Washington in July after the 4th.

But the GOP/conservatives expect the president to stay in town. What for? He can be reached wherever he is...isn't technology amazing?

Why weren't you saying that about Bush and all his time at his Crawford Ranch ?

It would be better if Obama did have a home state get away, like Bush had Crawford, Clinton had his New York get away, Bush 1 had Marthas Vineyard place, reagan had his Ranch in California, Carter... I think he actually stayed around Washington all the time with the Iran Hostage deal. LBJ had his ranch here in Stonewall. JFK had there compound.
