"However, despite the strides in education made by many African immigrants, including Nigerian-Americans, discrimination still colors their prospects for employment. A study of 2010 employment data by the Economic Policy Institute showed that, across nationalities and ethnic groups, Black immigrants carried the highest unemployment rate of all foreign-born workers."

You seem to have a propensity to make threads, title them provocatively, and then post links; however, you do not seem to read the links you post. The article you cite actually states that despite their achievements, Nigerians still face discrimination, which is the exact opposite of what your thread implies.

If you're going to make threads at least find articles that support your argument and not undercut it.

How does this factor into education?

Yet they still have high unemployment. Also people from the slums of Nigeria aren't moving to the US.

You want hear the politically incorrect answer... deserved or not the group has been stigmatized of being lazy and untrustworthy and unfortunately not of their doing immigrants are paying the price for that.

Corollary does not equal causation. Biggest fallacy in politics and popular culture.

Unemployment is an economic indicator. Discrimination is theoretical sociology. It is as accurate to say that black unemployment is caused by the number of 3 eyed lizards on Jupiter as it to say black unemployment is caused by discrimination. No proof can be offered for either argument to be tested as valid.

I'm Ghanaian and every black American I've met in Ghana has a degree. What's your point? Immigrants are not representative of the ethnic/racial group they belong to. These folks were educated in Nigeria for the most part and that country is certainly not at the top of many positive lists.

This is a quote from the article:

"Being Black, you are already at a disadvantage," Oluyinka Olutoye, an associate professor of pediatric surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, told the Houston Chronicle. "You really need to excel far above if you want to be considered for anything in this country."

Black Africans are going to travel thousands of miles only to say "I can't deal with the odds." We work our asses off. Black Americans are born into the situation and many don't work very hard because they think the deck is stacked against them.
