This really opened my eyes. $1815/month is considered poor and qualified for food stamp:

http://www.lawhelp.org/files/7C92C43...glish_2011.pdf

"Food stamps are given to a “household.” A household is everyone who lives together and cooks meals
together.

● Your household must have low income. In general, your gross monthly income must be less than
$1,815 per month for 1 person, $2,452 per month for 2 people, $3,089 per month for 3 people, and
$3,725 per month for 4 people. "

Note: all illegal immigrants would qualify for food stamp as they are "victim of trafficking."

I surely missed a lot of food stamps in my early days!!!

Now take taxes out of the 1815, rounds to about 1450 a month.

Thats 362 dollars a week take home.

It takes about 400 a month to feed my family of 4. So you're down 25% of your income for food straight out of the gate. Don't forget rent, usually around 5 to 600 a month even for small places. Electricity runs about 100 a month, water about the same.

Now we're down to abut 350 a month. Now fuel. Now clothes. Now if you need internet for your kids to do school work, almost mandatory now. Now a car payment, 200 a month. Now insurance for that car. Have to have a car and insurance to get to work in most places.

The point is, 1800 a month, before taxes, isn't that much to live on.

Some of the information is outdated-the maximum amounts are ~5% less now-so $189 for 1 person is the max not $200.

Also the federal income limits stated are completely wrong-this is from the USDA website-gross monthly income for 1 person is $1245-and having income at the maximum amount won't qualify you for much-you will probably need at least $700+ in rent (housing costs are taken into consideration so if you have none you won't qualify) and will only receive $16-50 per Month in Food Stamps. To get the most in benefits your housing costs need to be around or higher than your income, which also has to meet a threshold-so really as many times as the wannabe elites claim that welfare recipients are living the glamorous life-it really is not the case.

Eligibility | Food and Nutrition Service

I would not want to pay taxes to support our Government if I were working poor-it is easy to see how many become trapped in the welfare system.

No, thats not the point at all.

They have jobs. Your income is 1800 a month.

GOP doesn't like abortions. When married couples live together, do you suggest they practice no sex unless its for procreation? Accidental pregnancy happens.

The $1815 is for one person, living in DC, that is also in an expanded categorically eligible household.

Sucking money out of the paychecks of working men and women to pay for someone elses life choices is criminal.
I suggest if you aren't in a position to afford children, dont have them. Birth control is readily availiable and cheap. Your argument holds no water.

Neither does yours. The average time spent on SNAP is what, 10 months?
