Perry can't depoly National Guardsmen in another state. That is up to the governors - sans gonads - of those states to handle. Perry showed the rest of the nation how to do it...let's hope NM, AZ and CA can follow suite.

He has a bit more swagger than the man child in the BOval Office.

He doesn't seem like the grandstanding type. He seems more down to earth than most politicians actually.

There can't be 1 in a Million in this country that fully understand the "rights" of the Governors over the National Guard and the "rights" of the US Government over the National Guard.

Most people actually believe that the Governors have control of their State National Guards, but that is not the case. Perry has lobbed the ball into the court of Obama and the Pentagon, based on Public Opinion and Public Perception. He has now put Obama and the Defense Department into the position of refusing Border Protection. Interesting Gambit.

This isn't war - yet. The Texas National Guard is Perry's until called to go to war and that should never happen. We are in a sad state of affairs when any state's National Guard has to fight alongside the US military in international wars having nothing to do with the USA. It suggests the nation has stretched itself too thin or not enough people are enlisted for service. It's like leaving the country unprotected.

Disarm the citizens when we have no standing army?
We, the people, are the militia and our right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

The Border Patrol says it doesn't need their help -and the NG has no authority to make arrests. When questioned about this lack of authority on Fox Perry admitted it was just for show.

A McAllen Border Patrol agent said: "If they want to watch us do our job, or they want to make coffee or something, that's fine..."

With the latest influx the illegals are flagging down BP officials or just waiting to be arrested. The Nat Guard can help with giving rides or throwing the kids back into the river.

Need for police, National Guard at Texas-Mexico border is questioned - El Paso Times

The TEXAS National Guard, takes their orders from the Governor of the State, not the President of the USA.

Seriously, are people really this misinformed? Yes, we are claiming that the deportation numbers are made up. Well, actually manipulated. I don't know how many times this needs to be pointed out, but Obama claims he's deported more than the last two presidents because he changed the way statistics are kept. Obama now includes those turned away at the border as deportations when no other president has done that.

Yes, he did increase border patrol agents, but not all went to the border, and actually Texas got far less than it should have. The stretch of the United States border between Texas and Mexico is 1,254 miles, along some of the most rural areas in the state. There is a huge need for more border agents, or at least more surveillance equipment along certain stretches of the border as Rick Perry has said.

Does the Border Patrol even know what their job is anymore?

The National Guard is under the authority of the US Defense Department. Governors can call them up for a "State Emergency" (broadly defined as a "Natural occurrence", like tornados, riots, hurricanes) - "Border Protection" does not count.

Like I said - maybe 1 in a Million understand the situation. Perry can be overturned in a nano-second by the Pentagon and Team Obama. Whether that happens or not .... the State of Texas is responsible for ALL expenses of the Texas National Guard when not called up the the FED's.

Texas does have control of the State Guard and the Texas Department of Public Safety, BUT - anything Border related in dependent on Section 287 "Federal Rules". Perry was asking for the National Guard to be called up under Section 32 Rules .... Team Obama refused, so he went forward without them.

He is protecting his state, something that President Obama (whom has a constitutional duty to do so) won't do.
