The point was to call attention to lazy ass people who think they are entitled to someone else's money, like lazy people who are nothing but a drag on America and other Americans. Like it or not, numbers or not, people are sick of supporting the like of them.
Liberals want more of you, we want people to get off their lazy asses and work to support your own family.
He was talking about the then 47% of people who pay no federal income tax. That is what the 47% that was so carelessly bandied about represents.
He didn't quality his statement in any way.
The 47% INCLUDES, as has been noted many, many, many times, retired people, disabled people, and many others who have no tax liability.
If he didn't mean to include EVERYONE that made up the 47%, he should have said so.
This is what happens when memes get repeated without thought.
Yes, he should have said so. But there was never any doubt who the comment was directed at. Hence the outrage. Those who have paid taxes into the system had no need to be offended. Those that do not...oh well.
I'm not sure what the argument is here. What most folks heard is Romney saying he is not concerned about the 47& of the population. His only concern is the top 53%. Basically he is saying screw half of America. You cannot win a election with that type of mindset. A president focus should be on the entire population not just a percentage. The simple fact that anyone cannot see the problem with this line of thinking tells me all I need to know about that person. Romney is a elitist and that is the way he sees the country. Willing to make a 10k bet with Perry during a debate tells you just how out of touch he really is with average Americans. The distribution of income gap in this country is growing wider and wider by the decades. The top 20% own most of the pie and the middle class are the ones effected the most. This country can never reach it's full potential without a strong middle class. This has been proven time and time again.

Yet you support Obama who says the same thing to people like me. What I think or my concerns is not a concern of Obama. It's his way or he'll attack. Obamacare is an example. He could care less that my cost's went up almost 40%. To hell with me. I should be happy about it.
Obama, the "man" you thought was a messiah is a fraud. Obama is only concerned with fundraising, in an attempt to keep control of the senate so he can try to save his own legacy, do you really think he gives a DAMN about you? Really? Are you that naive?
Obama is just false promises. A sad, narcissistic, deception man. To Obama, it's all about Obama. A false liberal messiah. Words are cheap, and it's been proven that Obama's words are especially cheap... i.e. LIES.

Well again you you have proven that conservatives think your either with me or against me. I have many issues with President Obama and frankly I am fed up with both parties. Common sense has made a mass exodus from American politics. We simply argue about which is better being robbed by a gun or a computer. In the end the results are the same. I would love to see this country get back to fiscal conservative values but the current republican party is hell bent against letting that happen. As incompetent the democrats may be the republican party has shown they want that title even more.
Which is the majority, at over 70%. So your ridiculous post claiming seniors are the majority of those who pay no federal income tax is totally false.
More inanity from the low-information voters.
I'd also take the disabled out of the lazy mix, despite the fact they were not, of course, those wonderful trust fund babies. I'd take out veterans, who unlike trust fund babies, risked their lives defending the flag which allows trust fund babies to reap unearned (by themselves) gains.
Gotta love when the lazy hide behind retired and disable people.
Wimps!
Gotta love it when the RW exploits retired and disabled people for its own gain.
