Talk about a timely article! I was just talking to someone a few days ago about the desire to buy goods that were made in the USA, and how hard it was to find US-made good these days.
At one point I made a throw-a-way comment about how easy it would be for companies that produce goods overseas to simply put a "Made In The USA" label on their stuff, and none of us would ever be the wiser.
I had heard about the 'made in USA' scam whereby goods were really made in one of our territories, NOT actually in the USA, along with the scum who told workers they were going to the USA for jobs, only to be virtually imprisoned in the Phillipines or somewhere like that and forced to work.
In this case (OP's link) the Feds just went after a company that sells "Made in the USA" stickers without investigating the buyer's declaration that he is in compliance. They didn't go after manufacturers or distributors of fake-USA goods. Why don't the feds go after the BBB scam where the BBB sells BBB stickers/memberships without verify that that buyer is an upstanding company. Any scammy company with $$$ can join the BBB.

A larger part of the problem is it's very hard to make something entirely in the US. If I'm using imported sheets od steel that are worth and employ someone for 5 days to turn it into something is it made in the USA? The finished product has greater value mostly becsue of the labor involved. Where do you draw the line? What if I need something for my product and I simply cannot buy it made in the US?
If you go to Redwing's site which is one of the few companies that still make footwear here you can sort their product by four categories. It gets really hard to draw a line.
Made in USA
Made in USA with Imported Materials
Assembled in the USA with Imported Components
Made in China
Walk into a mall or chain store and look for US made goods.
It isn't hard IF you know what to look for.
Duh! I have. I proudly fly my Ameican flag I bought at Wal-Mart made in NEW JERSEY.
Because you are lazy, that isn't my problem.
Try this one time. Before going shopping, you should know what you want.
Go to the site I included and look up your items. It will tell you which products are made in the U.S.A.
Do a search, you do know how to do a search on the computer don't you? Then go to the store that has your American made product. Or order it off line.
If you want it you can find it. It isn't that hard. In fact it is much easier, and saves a lot of time, to "shop" on the Internet then it is at a mall.
