Which Russian threat anything tantamount to nuclear missiles in Cuba has Obama backed down from--or even faced?
What, Russia threatened Ukraine? The Soviets built the Berlin Wall six months after Kennedy took office--JFK didn't exactly go to war over that, either. Nor did Johnson go to war with the Soviets over their invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968.
Sometime in 1962-1963, top military brass conducted a briefing with Kennedy and really tried to convince him to launch a full-on preemptive nuclear attack on the USSR. Their thinking was that it was inevitable anyway, so it was best to get it over with while we had a tactical advantage. They assured him that they had done exhaustive analyses and determined that while the US population would be decimated in the counter attack, there would be an acceptable number remaining that would be able to eventually rebuild society over time. These weren't nuts from the fringes of society. These were top level military guys who were able to command an audience with the president. I shudder to think how that conversation would have went with another president in the chair (like a Cheney).
It was reported that as Kennedy was walking out of the room he said, "And we call ourselves the human race". I didn't post this as an argument to your post, I was just reminded of this story that I read about recently.
It's not about Obama. It's about the fact the world situation is nowhere near critical enough to evoke a world war.
In 1973, the Soviets were steaming toward an attack on Israel and the US med fleet was steaming to intercept them. The military was already at DEFCON 3. Most people don't realize it, but there would not have been any turning back from DEFCON 2.
In November 1983, the Soviets flushed their boomers out of port and began opening their silos--thinking the US was launching an attack under cover of an exercise. SAC really was planning for war as furiously as we could, just in case nobody could convince Andropov otherwise.
I didn't perpetuate the notion that this is entirely Obama's fault. You can't say the most powerful man on the planet has nothing to do with world events.
It's easy to pick and choose single events/eras in history and say it was worse then. Obviously Vietnam was far worse than Iraq and Afghanistan, and the Cuban crisis far worse than Russia annexing Crimea.
I'm looking at the big picture and all the events that are unfolding in combination, and so quickly. Just 6 months ago none of this was happening, and you must admit, if things keep spiraling out of control as they are... it could get really bad really quick.

A leader promotes liberty at home, sets the ship right and understands common sense economics not printing presses and debt.
A leader promotes liberty daily to the hearts and minds of free people and when your the example of freedom others will follow.
Obama is not a leader he is a follower of Marx and statism which is the end of America and the world as we know it.
Extreme statists have been running this nation for sometime.

Spend more money that we do not have as a country. In order to save people who do not really give a crap about us. Then, build their infrastructure at the detriment of our welfare and our own infrastructure. In order to let their economy to be able to receive factories that are going to compete with our products or even worse, to offshore all of those good manufacturing jobs. No Steven.
I'm buying some Popcorn and watching how finally the world is running is course, as many in the world wanted it. And I like it.
Time to care about folks at home. The underprivileged kids, the veterans, their families, the displaced workers because their jobs is now done by a 12 year old kid in China making 12 cent a month. Let ISIS, and all those org finally ****ed up the Middle East and the damn dictatorships we have been propping up over there for the benefit of the big Oil company.

Indeed. The gap between the wealthy and the poor has increased greatly under Obama and the middle class has shrunk, especially the Black middleclass.
