Does anyone remember this video where Fox's Bret Baier clashed with former NSC spokesman Tommy Vietor on the Benghazi emails, where Vietor said "Dude, this was like two years ago". Regardless of political iews, what was your reaction to the backlash?
Someone in this White House saying "dude" is no surprise at all. Of course it doesn't reflect the professionalism I would expect of the office. However, now that I think of it, I wouldn't expect the President of the United States to wear shorts on a golf course either. That too just doesn't seem fitting for our country's highest office holder.
What's really astounding about this interview is that the editing of the talking points would have been certainly one of the most momentous experiences of this young man's career, and it is unlikely that he would have forgotten what happened.
Ranking Dem on the house intel committee, Dutch Ruppersburger (D, MD) had asked the CIA for talking points on the Benghazi incident, which they provided. This was also distributed to the dept of state and reviewed by Hillary's chief of staff Cheryl Mills and press se'cy Victoria Nuland. The initial version said "Islamic extremists with ties to al Qaeda participated in the attack." At the behest of Nuland, the document went through 12 revisions. All references to al Qaeda and Ansar al-Sharia were removed. Instead there were references to "demonstrations." The election was less than two months away, and the Obama admin did not want their narrative of 'bin Laden dead, GM alive' undercut.
This would have left a deep impression on anyone. You're involved in something that you know is going to land in history books. You're wondering whether you'll get away with it, smelling like a rose, or not, smelling like the rat you know you are.
Watching the video again, notice how quickly his memory goes from razor-sharp to 'dude this was like 2 years ago.'
@about .30 he recalls that they were very worried on Friday, Sept 14, due to it being a prayer day in Dar al Islam. Few seconds later his memory suddenly turns to mush as he can't remember if or how he edited the talking points.
oooor how about "yo *******" that was like two years ago....
