If any POTUS ever starts another unnecessary war of choice because "If we don't act Israel will" or some similarly inane reason I can only hope the impeachment papers will be on his/her desk within 24 hours.

We don't even need a new strategic bomber. When would we ever use a B-52-like bomber in a counterinsurgency role or a tactical bombing role? We're not going to war with any major powers soon, so I think we should focus on an A-10 replacement or new helicopter gunships. I wonder what happened to the proposed F-22 bomber variant, but the F-35 is just a money pit and should be scrapped.

The GBU-28 is a bunker buster bomb carried by B-2s. Israel has bought hundreds to use and fly in (w/ fighters) against Iran's nuclear and hardened facilities.

It's not about devastating a country, it's about having the capability of devastating specific facilities. Currently the only type of weapon that is absolutely capable of destroying these underground facilities is nuclear tipped bunker busters. To do that with conventional weapons you need a bigger bomb which also means you need a plane to carry it.

For example the bombs dropped on Japan would have been useless without the B-29. Small bit of history here, the most expensive weapons project of WW2 was not the Manhattan project. It was the B-29.

"The B-52 contributed to Operation Enduring Freedom in 2001 (Afghanistan/Southwest Asia), providing the ability to loiter high above the battlefield and provide Close Air Support (CAS) through the use of precision guided munitions, a mission which previously would have been restricted to fighter and ground attack aircraft.[195] In late 2001, ten B-52s dropped a third of the bomb tonnage in Afghanistan.[196] B-52s also played a role in Operation Iraqi Freedom, which commenced on 20 March 2003 (Iraq/Southwest Asia). On the night of 21 March 2003, B-52Hs launched at least one hundred AGM-86C CALCMs at targets within Iraq.

Anyway...this interview is pretty interesting. And of course you're gonna get the company line from a General.

Maybe the people that make it are union and they have to be paid more so it's an expensive bomber.

When the time comes for when you NEED a bomber, it is far to late to design and produce one.
But that's not accurate:
1) the B1 bomber program was canceled.
2) today we have a variety of alternatives to conventional bombers. The clip doesn't explain why the need for such airplanes, only that the existing fleet is old.
