Americans that voted for him got just what they asked for. I hope that they are happy. And why does there need to be a war on coal? To appease the radical environmentalists and progressives? Good. Then the radical environmentalists and progressives can pay the electric bills of those seeing increases in their bills due to loss of coal generated power. Maybe the American people need to pull their heads out of sports, sports, sports (bread and circuses) and start bringing class action lawsuits against the groups that lobby for things like this that makes the cost of living for the average working Joe and Jane go up that much more.

One big advantage to living where there is 40-100+" of rain annually is that electricity is strictly from hydro, and we are still at about 7 cents/KwH. We also don't have to worry about droughts. Our state also does benefit from the sale of coal to other countries, with several terminals operating and 3 more proposed, mostly shipping coal from Wyoming.

Those people who are pushing this and support are often very wealth..it doe s not hit them to the same degree as the rest of us..

Hate to burst your bubble, but FPL prices have been so low that people are actually commenting that their electric bills have gone down from a high somewhere back in 2008 and are incredibly low. Our summer AC was once close to $300 per month, but has been under $200 for the last few summers and really low when AC isn't needed. So it certainly is not true if you use FPL in Florida. It's only gone down and has not risen at all yet.
This is a situation of supply and demand. Electricity prices have escalated, as 85% of the electricity produced in the US is from coal fired plants.
Most people know prices tend to go up, not down. Just because prices of TVs have gone down, does not mean prices of everything else will go down as well. It's pretty basic.
This is an interesting conversation from you guys whose electric bills have declined (I'm assuming it's because the KwH rate has declined and not your usage) because here in the DC/MD/VA region you can count on the electric suppliers asking for rate increases yearly, or in BGE's case more often, for both electricity and distribution.

Yep. We average $140 in the heat of the summer, and less than $100 in the cool of the winter.
I already use it for suplimental poser for my barns and shop and eventually I hope to get off the grid 100%. The technology is improving and becoming cheaper. It will get there and before your son is our age. The biggest issue is energy storage, batteries are the weak link but they are working hard on improving the capabilites.
That's the real barrier to both solar and wind, we have not found a cost effective way of storing the energy. Any energy storage system would most likely double the cost of the solar array over it's lifetime. Batteries are either manufactured with rare caustic or hazardous chemicals and metals.
It's the same issue of manufactured materials with electric cars. Car batteries are expensive to replace when they wear out. We just junk the lithium batteries in landfills, so could imagine a future metropolitan area like LA with a few million electric cars, and a few hundred million car batteries? We'd be junking millions of batteries each and every month, with used car salesman prematurely replacing car batteries just to sell a used car. And that would be just one city.
