Clear it up for me. Its an honest question. Are these long recesses that they get, only time off from being able to do legislation and then they go back to their districts doing "stuff"? How much vacation time do they get, are there guidelines for it? How much time off a year do they get that wouldnt include using vacation time?

Just seems unjust to me that it appears they have a lot of "recess" and breaks yet are still paid 6 figures along with benefits for life. Not much of a "Public Servant" position anymore, imo.

The calendar requires Congress to be in session only 113 days this year. That's 2.17 days a week on an annualized basis.

This leaves ample time for senators and reps to tend to their day jobs/ private businesses and fund raising for their own reelection or party.

Why don't you try to change the Constitution?

Article 1. Section 4 "Congress shall assemble at least ONCE in every year..."

Congress was DESIGNED to be PART TIME JOB. Always has been, always will be.

The current Congress has been in "session" just as much as all other Congresses.

When Congress is out of session that does not mean they are on vacation. Being a Congressman involves much more than being in Washington for hearings or votes. In order to represent the people of your district you have to spend time at home meeting with them. During recess periods, a Congressman might have 2 or 3 meetings per day with community groups, local business owners, etc.

Ok, I'm fine with it being a part time gig. But their salaries dont reflect that, nor do their benefits. Their salaries should be cut by more than half and they should get zero lifetime benefits.

If you believe the only thing they all do is damage then why do you keep sending them there year after year?

You first

All kindergarten kids need a recess. They lack the attention span of adults.

....answers your question.

There is no valid reason for Congress to be assembled for more than 30 days in any year.

When you jellyfish evolve and grow a spine, maybe you'll actually get the courage to amend the Constitution so that 67% of the voters have to approve pay raises, and that the voters in each State set the wages, salary or benefits for their representatives and senators.

In the meantime, keep dreaming a knight in shining armor will come and solve your problems for you....
