Prisoners have too much time on their hands. Make them work for cheap. There goes the illegals.

Inmates, illegals, and all sorts of folks are free to demand anything and everything. That's hardly worth discussing. The serious issue is, how are these demands addressed by the authorities in charge? That's the real news story, and all too often these days, it's a "horror story". Does the ACLU know about this?

I am all in favor of keeping dangerous items out of the hands of criminals. We can start by removing power from Congress, internet connections from 90% of the population, and the empty warhead at 1600 Pennsylvania avenue.

No, of course he shouldn't be able to have a hammer and sword while in prison.
That's just absurd.

Of course, this part was left out...

"Sahs Swords can be made of cardboard due to institutional restrictions," Polk wrote.
Prisoners are prisoners. They must accept and live with the fact that they cannot live their lives as they please while they're serving their time. We as a society err gravely when we prevent them from living any kind of a decent life once they're released (we marginalize them for the rest of their lives, deny them employment at every turn, basically make sure that someone can not turn their lives around no badly how much they want to), but we bear no obligation to cater to them while they're incarcerated.
