I don't either. I just mentioned Ann Coulter's name because I saw in another thread she claimed Dr. Brantley was idiotic for going to Africa on a mission rather than doing something for people in this country. Then on this thread it seemed like people were saying these doctors were idiots.

I don't take what Coulter or Maher or any other comedian/pundit seriously. Occasionally I'll agree or at least get a little laugh about it. Not always though, and just a few days after the doctor fell ill is annoying. I was thinking for a little while that the good doctor died, but I just recalled he was the one who got the "secret serum" and is in recovery right now. Still, pretty disgusting.

And if any of the quibblers poo-pooing the good doctors return the U.S. put a modicum of thought into this- the CDC would rather have the good doctor in a US controlled medical facility in order to measure the effectiveness of this serum that is otherwise unavailable.

If an an outbreak were to occur in the US (however unlikely) we need to measure how effective the serum is under our standard medical protocols, not those that are found in the third world.

I think, if the naysayers would open their eyes, that in some respects this is a beneficial matter for us all.

And so it starts.

Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea and to a lesser extent, Nigeria need to be quarantined from international travel.

Default Ebola Has Arrived and Not By Medical Transport

Ebola has arrived, apparently. A person from Liberia who didn't show symptoms on the plane is now in a Dallas hospital. There is a press conference scheduled for tonight.

Given the vague and varied symptoms, I am impressed it was diagnosed.

We failed to protect ourselves by closing our borders to African travel. It is here now and it won't be stopped. This person came in with symptoms and undoubtedly contacted others. Texas has the highest rate of uninsured people in the country - nearly half. It's not much better than Liberia in that respect. The poor will avoid going in for treatment until they have spread the virus. It would seem prudent to avoid Dallas, at least. But realistically, it won't stop there.
