Blow the crap out of them, let Iraq clean up the mess and do what they will with the reprieve from destruction that our country temporarily provides them (they can either get their act together and find a way to peace or completely squander the opportunity), and send a clear message to every other terrorist and wanna-be terrorist organization out there that we are tired of d*cking around with them. No more.
Not to worry. Obama has said our aim is to contain them - not to destroy them. We will kill a handful and cause thousands to join them because of it. Where have we not been through this before? Obama should have just went golfing or to another fund raiser.

Lightbulb Step up the pace

These paleolithic tribal entities just aren't killing each other off fast enough.

If the US trained and equipped Iraqi army won't fight for Iraq, why should anyone else?

If the Kurdish peshmerga won't fight to keep ISIS out of Erbil, why should anyone else?

America can't care more about these middle eastern issues than the middle easterners do.

Yes. If you get involved, get involved to wipe out and destroy your perceived enemy, otherwise go play golf.

You are assuming they want to. Haven't we learned by now their culture is more complicated and divisive that "bringing democracy" is probably doomed?

If you want to bring peace be prepared to go back to the empire days of colonization, we take over with a iron fist, eradicate all opposition and install fear and then maybe the U.S.A will have a lasting handle on the middle east.

Until recently if you said "ISIS" most people would ask "who's that"? What makes you think another sect or group won't pop up in its place? That's what they know, tribal and sect rivality, coupled with religion.

There is already a global Muslim uprising.

Northern Africa, the Philippines, Indonesia, the Middle East, Europe. The Western hemisphere OK as of now.

From the posts so far in this thread - very few appear to understand what ISIS is ..... and it's worth noting that ISIS is now IS in their evolution.

They early roots were AQIR - al-qaeda in Iraq .... but they were defeated in Iraq.
They went underground and emerged again in the Syria Civil War (which the USA ignored) and morphed into ISIL, which is the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. The meaning of that is - In its self-proclaimed status as a caliphate, it claims religious authority over all Muslims across the world and aspires to bring much of the Muslim-inhabited regions of the world under its direct political control, beginning with nearby territory in the Levant region, which includes Jordan, Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, Cyprus, and an area in southern Turkey that includes Hatay. Most Westerners are not familiar with the term "Levant" - but it is also the area that the al-Assad family (Father & Son) also claimed to want to rule over. ISIL (morphed to ISIS and now to IS) was a gathering that is even too extremist for the old al-qaeda. Ignoring them in Syria was a mistake. Ignoring the 170,000 dead Syrian was a mistake. Calling ISIL/ISIS/IS a "junior varsity" is beyond ridiculous and yet, that's exactly what our President did in January 2014.

Obama says new groups claiming allegiance to al Qaeda are equivalent to JV players wearing Lakers jerseys. Daily Beast - January 2014

I "get" that Obama enjoys his Victory Dance about "al-qaeda is on the run", he is all about the Victory Lap and his "Containment Policy". It should be clear to everyone at this point that "containment" is not working very well. These guys (and gals) are NOT "junior varsity" - they are an Army, complete with uniforms, more money than they can spend and all the American Weapons they can use.

ISIL managed to blow up the Syria Civil War - the Moderate Sunnis is Syria became the enemy of ISIL as the Religious War grew. Containment and "maybe it will get better" failed. ISIL moved to IRAQ - (back to their very roots) and why not? They had a natural enemy - the Shiites that were allowed to subjugate the Sunnis in Iraq. The USA stood by and watched Maliki fail as a leader with nothing to force him to moderate. In fact, we praised him - in our rush to exit and satisfy the BASE.

So here we are - ISIL, became ISIS ( Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) and moved into IRAQ to take advantage of the wealth of Iraq, settle old scores and take control of the natural resources (lots of lovely OIL) and the American Weaponry that the USA had so kindly left behind when we Bugged Out in a rush.

ISIS is now IS (The Islamic State) and declared their Caliphate over all Muslims. These folks are NOT "junior varsity". It's estimated that about 100 Americans are part of IS, about 200 Europeans are IS .... that means an estimated 300 IS members have access to the USA either through citizenship or passport/visa travel.

That's a brief background and doesn't even scratch the surface of their Brutality and Radicalism. Everyone (except the USA Leadership) is scared to death of these Butchers. The Saudis, Jordan, Egypt - pretty much all the Mid-East countries understand what IS is and what they are capable of.

ISIS Spokesman Declares Caliphate, Rebrands Group as “Islamic State”

They are not a "joke", they are not "junior varsity", they ARE a threat to the USA and the World ..... and we will pretend to attempt to "contain" them and just watch people be slaughtered. The Kurds are a good option, there are other good options, but the Prez is busy on vacation and we will try some "humanitarian" air drops of food and "hope" for the best. He is getting bad press from all the slaughter of Christians and other Minority groups. About this point , he might be sorry he hired the Genocide Chick (her name for herself) as our UN Ambassador. How embarrassing would it be for the US Ambassador to the United Nations to diss the US President because he is "thinking" and doesn't know what to do? Sam Powers would do exactly that - she feels that strongly about Genocide

It is what it is.
