The Middle East that Obama inherited in 2009 was largely at peace, for the surge in Iraq had beaten down the al Qaeda-linked groups. U.S. relations with traditional allies in the Gulf, Jordan, Israel and Egypt were very good. Iran was contained, its Revolutionary Guard forces at home. Today, terrorism has metastasized in Syria and Iraq, Jordan is at risk, the humanitarian toll is staggering, terrorist groups are growing fast and relations with U.S. allies are strained.
Disagree. Middle East is fully responsible for itself. Throughout history in the middle east, most conflicts were, and still are, religious unlike western and eastern society, they have not yet ignored the primitive parts of their holy book.
ME was unstable before Islam existed.
ME was unstable before oil became a major industry.

this is a quibble over words. the Middle East had conflicts, but they were contained.

Roadking is correct. The conflicts are spilling over and know no boundaries. There appears to be no way to contain them. And that can be traced to Obama's foreign policies (or lack thereof).

Disagree. I am not President obama fan, but blaming him for BREAKING the Middle East?!
I suspect that I'm the only person that actually read the article in the OP.
I continue to be amazed at how little Americans actually know about current events.

If blaming Obama is coming from a 10 year old, then blaming Bush is from an 8 year old. I seem to remember a little thing called 911, and every Democrat, save a few, jumped on the invade Iraq band wagon.
Many of you liberals are quick to blame Bush, while defending Obama as not being in control of such things. You can't have it both ways, yet you refuse to understand this simple fact.
Do yourselves a favor, vote for Gary Johnson or Rand Paul. This will solve quite a lot!
I agreed about going to Iraq. Until i found out they were lying to us. You remember that lying scum Dick Cheney don't you?
The world was such a peaceful place in 2009, why couldn't we leave a few hundred thousand soldiers for another10-20 years, Bush handed Obama two wars on a silver platter.
Read about about what Bush did to make it where we were to leave. Maliki wouldn't sign a SOFA.
